The Moscow Zoo or Moskovsky Zoopark (Russian: Московский зоопарк) is a 21.5-hectare (53-acre) zoo founded in 1864 by professor-biologists, K.F. Rulje, S.A. Usov and A.P. Bogdanov, from the Moscow State University. In 1919, the zoo was nationalized. In 1922, the ownership was transferred to the Government of Moscow and has remained under Moscow's control ever since.
The zoo had an area of 10 hectares (25 acres) when it first opened, with 286 animals. In 1926, the zoo was expanded to adjacent lands, increasing the area to 18 hectares (44 acres). The zoo's original buildings were wooden, built in the old Russian style with intricate wood trims.

Great zoo! We have small kids so the fact that inside the zoo you can access anything with a stroller, that's a huge plus! The animals are so close! You really have to exercise caution. But they are so beautiful and cool to see you close! The facility is nice and themed. It's taken very good care of. The restrooms are plentiful and clean. This is a great spot to visit for anyone coming to Moscow for a few days, or if you simply love animals!

Wonderful, I have been there while everything was covered in snow. It's nice to have such a zoo in the middle of a great city.

A great place for children. We had a wonderful day out at the zoo. It was not busy either (we visited on a work day) so we had a nice, calm walk around. Magic!

Super nice place to come with children and spent day out. Adult entry fee is 500 roubles. Ticket counters accept cash as well as card payments. But inside the park is better to have cash, coz they accept Sberbank (local bank) cards only. Park is neat and clean. Very organized and interesting. There are also drinking water points free of charge, which came as pleasant surprise for me. Easily can spend entire day. There are eating joints also provided (fast food mainly). Also keep an eye on online schedules of feeding, during which animals come out and u can have close up look and click photos.

Moscow zoo. Historical place, but territilory is kind of small for all the animals they have. Unfortunately, there is no room to expand it further, since it's located in the center of the city. Still, nice experience. Free entry for the children under 16.

It's closed to the metro Belorusskaya. Nice place. The seal and the polar beer are awesome

Huge, beautiful and the animals were very well fed and cared. The entrance is cheap and you can spend whole day there. The Russian fox and the tiger were my favorite. Very impresive. They have a huge amount of different species that I haven't seen before. Highly recommended.

We weren't very happy with this place. Quite a few animals are sick or undernourished. The tiger was very skinny, and poor elephants only have a rock in the middle of the cage for entertainment. I did like the nocturnal pavilion though, it's good to see animals active and happy.

Not great for wheelchair users. Was incredibly disappointed. Most of the toilets are down stairs for women, and people just act like wheelchair users are in the way. With it being a nice day weather wise when I visited, I would have thought I'd see more than 3 animals, but I didn't. The "new Zoo" area is put ridiculously on top of the "old zoo", and if you can even access the ramp up there is no way an independent wheelchair user can do this. It is only set up for people who go with a "carer", well some of us actually travel alone! So please get with the times Moscow, and don't treat us like we are trash.
