Let me start by saying it's not that crowded till about 5:30pm right before the band starts at 6pm. Then the crowd rush starts by the bus loads. But how impressed by the waiting staff I was with there quick and prompt service. Not many tip but i gave 6€ cash to my waiter and he remembered it by always coming to me first. It goes a long way to show gratitude. The large 1 liter of beer is so cheap at 8€ and the pork sausage platter was a steal at 11€. I was expecting higher prices but it had great prices. Definitely a great time. I found a table with a gentleman sitting alone and I left with a great friend. Enjoy the people at your table. Its highly recommended to try once.

Arrived at about 11:30am, shortly before the deluge of lunch traffic. Got a good seat right in front of the band, who began playing at 12pm for about an hour. For a few euros they play requests, including the 'Beer Barrel Polka'. Had a delicious pork knuckle wrapped in pig tongue and a giant beer. Service was great.

Great place, a Munich icon really, full of history and anecdotes, but extremely crowded to the point of having to squeeze in between tourists trying to take pictures. Depending on the time of day, very very hard to find a seated place. Rather unfriendly staff, but this might be because the sheer amount of customers they constantly have. Good, traditional food, but I've definitely seen much better just meters away from the place. Would definitely recommend for at least a walk-through though.

Had a wonderful time here with a large mug of beer and the ever famous pork knuckle. Extremely attentive waiter who gave good recommendation and international menu card is available , English will be fine. The whole atmosphere was filled with celebration and live music was very much entertaining. Felt like weekend on Monday. Recommended for all those who would like to feel the warmth of Munich and sitting next to people from all around the world!

This place has become a cliché tourist trap, but it absolutely lives up to the hype. Food was pretty good; I ate a pork knuckle and a variety of sausages. The beer was also good, and there were special ones available for Easter as well (which was a few days after we ate here). However, it was the atmosphere and service which really shined. There was a lively vibe, with a band playing traditional Bavarian music every now and then, and the architecture and decor added to the charm. Our waiter was also very friendly and cheerful.
