The Palazzo della Prefettura or Palace of the Prefecture is a monumental palace located in the central Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, Italy. It stands in front and to the north of the Royal palace.
The palace previously called Palazzo della Foresteria, was commissioned by Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies as a guest house in the gardens of his royal palace. It had previously housed a 14th-century convent of Basilian Monks. The present Neoclassical building and its twin across the piazza were designed by the 19th century architects Leopoldo Laperuta and Antonio De Simone. In 1890 Antonio Curri decorated the first floor Caffè Gambrinus, noted in the 19th century for attracting artists.

Big and beautiful antic square in naples. Architecture is a charm to look at. Best part: there is a game that a local taught me about this place: Try to walk blindly over the square (with a friend guiding you of course) and try to end up inbetween to two statues. If you succeed you will have a lot of good fortune! Spoiler alert: It is not easy at all!

Nothing that will change one's life, not bad either, worth a quick visit if time allows it.

This is probably the most beautiful public space in Naples and it's right next to the "Via Toledo" and "Galleria Umberto" where all the shopping is.

Come to Naples and than you can die. This old Neapolitan saying means that once you have seen Naples you have seen it all. There is no other place like it. It is a beauty and Piazza del Plebiscito is its heart. On a side you can see the royal Palace on the other a stunning cathedral and if you take a good look you can even see the sea. Try this!! Standing next to the royal palace entrance, shut your eyes and try to walk between the two horses statues, see what happens (be sure there is someone with you whatching out for you) good luck and have fun in Naples.

Great place to stop and watch the world go by. At night the lights are multicoloured and phase between the colours which makes the buildings look really good. Different entertainment every day, so worth taking the time to stop and look around.

It is the biggest open space in the historic city of Naples. Adorned by the Royal palace on one side and by chruch of San Francesco Di Paola on another, it gives an authentic feel of beauty of vastness. The harbour of Naples is just few meters away. The main marketplace start from here. A perfect place to hangout.

This was a really relaxing square. It wasn't too busy or loud when I was here, which made it a great place to sit for an hour.

Naples is a great city. When we were there they were having garbage strikes, so the new city was little dirty, but the old city was beautiful. The buildings and forts right out of old European history.
