Amazing museum. Lots to see. Didn't get a chance to hit everything but what I did see was amazing. The handheld audio tour guides enhanced the experience. If you go on a free day, make sure to hit it right at opening. There were only a few other people there when we showed up but it got very busy very fast. Would go back.

This is simply the best museum for anything related to Pompeii and Herculaneum! Besides that, it also carries some unmissible pieces like the fabulous Heracles statue and the Atlas real globe. Its collection of Ancient Roman and Greek statues are amazing, as is also valuable its small collection of Egyptian items. Plan to expend at least some four hours there, unless you don't like museums at all... ;)

We paid full price when we came at a half priced time. Seemed like there was some information we were missing, the Pompeii area could provide more historical information. Seemed to be lots of construction and photo shoots going on where we were asked to leave parts of the museum that we paid to see. There was some interesting content, loved the scandalous exhibit.

Fantastic museum and is huge. There is stuff from all over Italy and when I was there the also had stuff from Egypt. They had real mummies and even mummified crocodile. I had a fun time and learned quite a bit. This is definitely a must see in Naples.

Beautiful collections of art, sculpture, artifacts from Pompeii and Herculenium in a stunning building. Audio tour is extremely helpful. Be sure to visit the secret room. Note that they offer a discounted admission for the last 2 hours of the day, but start shutting down at 7pm for the 7:30p close. Check what days they are closed before planning you trip.

Several exhibitions were closed on the day, but we weren't warned on entry which was a bit of a shame. Having read reviews it seemed a must-see if you'd explored Herculaneum and Pompeii but we didn't agree (our opinion obviously - others will disagree). Some parts were interesting. The temporary exhibition was just in Italian (again, this would be fine for others...given it is Italy!). Thought it was a bit expensive for what it was also.

Excellent museum experience today! The private Egyptian collections were fascinating and the museum’s collection of Pompeii Mosaics was terrific. (Note: there is one room of Pompeii artifacts, attached to the mosaics, I would recommend discretion.)

Fantastic collection, highly recommend a visit here first if you plan to go to Pompeii. The museum houses the artifacts taken from there so gives a real feel of how beautiful Pompeii would have looked when intact. The Frescos and mosaics are particularly impressive.

This is a top tiered museum for Roman art. Many of the best preserved pieces from Pompeii and Herculaneum reside here, paintings, mosaics, sculpture, metal objects, etc. There is no better place for a preview of Pompeii and Herculaneum than this museum. I highly recommend visiting the museum before going to the archaeological sites so that you have a better context of what you look at.

Amazing collection laid out in a well-organized system. But it's missing a good place to eat lunch. You can't bring food or drink in, or your backpack. So you have to buy food and drink from machines, or go without. Not all pieces have English descriptions, and a few have no descriptions. But you can still see a lot of great sculptures, frescoes, mosaics, jewellery, and other artefacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum. The local neighbourhood is very ugly though.

Visited on "free Sunday" and expected it to be very busy, but it was fine. Great exhibits, with most of the information cards in English as well as Italian. First time I'd been so close to so many marble statues, and found it fascinating. Highly recommend a visit.

The queues are not too big. The entrance price is reasonable. Avoid the secret room if you are with children as it displays Roman porn. Very interesting otherwise. Beautiful statues and mosaics.

Fantastic. Unforgettable. So many treasures. My legs became very tired after a whole afternoon going from one gallery to the next. All the Pompeii treasures were removed here for safe keeping. Best place to go after visiting the ruins.

This is very impressive but I was board pretty quickly. There is little consistency to the exibits and you often have to back track to see everything. The information about the exhibits was sparse with most of it only describing the object in front of you. There was also a weird Star Wars thing while we were there. No idea why it just had little star wars models mixed in with Roman artifacts. This could be so much better than it was with just a couple of minor adjustments.

Beautiful artifacts easily associated with Pompey, having visited the site the previous day. The only mistake we made was not hiring the audio as this would have greatly enhanced our visit to the museum. The only reason I don't give 5 stars we found it difficult to find all we came to see due to the complex layout of the museum. Overall great experience.

Because of the Pompeii and Herculaneum content I give it a 4 star. Why can’t they write all texts in at least English? We found so many beautiful articles and art here. Loved it.

Awesome. Make a day of it or two. You don't want to be rushed by your own party. It's extensive. I recommend have people within your group meet at a certain time so you can do your own thing.

Make sure you get an audio guide here because most of the descriptions are written in Italian. This is an old eerily beautiful decrepit museum in a beautiful building. The top floor was my personal favorite. Would recommend for a rainy day or a way to pass time.

An amazing place of historical artifacts. You must combine this with a visit to Pompeii to give the items you see, context. If you can, use a private driver to get you around. Stress less is always good. We recommend Francesco Del Pizzo at Moretti Taxi. Thanks to Luigi. If English is your first or second language, they are most helpful.

Staff extremely helpful, gracious and kind. The museum is full to the brim with beautiful antiquities, astonishing sculptures in marble and bronze, as well as a host of other beguiling artifacts. A must in Napoli. 😉
