Travellers Rest, also known as Golgotha, is a former plantation and historic plantation house, located in Nashville, Tennessee. The first owner of the site was John Overton in 1796, who built the first family home in 1799. For many years this plantation was worked and maintained by enslaved Black people.
It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 30, 1969, for its 18th century agricultural, political, and military history significance.
Best hidden historical gem in Middle Tennessee. If you want the best people to share the history of TN come hereand ask questions! Great group of Docents. Fantastic summer camp program.

Very knowledgeable staff, beautiful historic site. More then willing to answer any and all questions you may have. A must see if your into history especially of amazing women in history.

Visited Travellers Rest on a field trip with my daughter. There were 4 buildings we toured. The welcome/gift center, the Main house, the schoolhouse, and the barn, which is not historic, but built to blend in and used for events. The thing I liked about this place versus other historic museums, is that while the guides dressed for the 1840's, they did not go method and stay in character. That always freaks me out. They were knowledgeable and good with the kids.

Interesting place to visit. This plantation is unlike others in the Nashville area. Its one of the best antebellum (pre Civil War) sites to visit in greater Nashville. Fun and informative visit.

This gem of a place is tucked away here in the southern side of Nashville. Lots of history to be seen here and they take pride in its preservation. We ended up have our wedding and reception here. The coordinator, June, was great to work with and easy to communicate with. They rent out the barn on the property and you are able to have people come in and decorate and cater if needed. They are partnered with a few vendors and are helpful in making it a great experience. I would high recommend this for anyone visiting for some Civil War history and/or a wedding.

Toured as part of a package deal with two other Nashville mansions and this tour was the least impressive and least interesting of the three. Glad we did it last.

Nice old home with fascinating history. But they need more visitors so they can raise more money for much-needed restorations and upkeep. Still a worthwhile place to visit. Very friendly staff.

Cool place, went to a wedding outside there... maybe a bit too close to a busy trainyard for that but beautiful none the less... giant magnolia trees... the party venue in back was nice!

The plantation and overall exp. was great. Tour guide could've been a little more informative.

Great tour and wonderful antiques from the Civil War. Takes about an hour to see, but you get a lot of information about the era, the people and of Jon Overton.

Great historical place to visit. We had a fantastic tour of the home and had a very good guide that went over all of the history and artifacts in the home.

First-time visitor, traveling through and wanted to visit since it was a blue star Museum. Went into admissions not noticing the "out to lunch" sign. Which I find a little odd, i would think that someone could find time to have their lunch during slow times. Didn't seem like there would be a steady flow of people coming in and out. After being rushed out of the admissions office, so not to disturb lunch, we decided to go on back through the grounds and just show our military ID afterwards. Gorgeous buildings and my kids really enjoyed the few child geared activities. Was not aware that we were not supposed to go through the main house without being on a tour. That probably was part of a conversation that would have happened at admissions. Sorry about that. Was in a time crunch so didn't end up having time to go through a tour. Feel like maybe the website should have gone through tour times just so we could have visited at the right time.

Tour guide was super informative and knowledgeable, she would answer any questions or comments tour goers may have. Before the tour of the actual house there's a small shop where you buy the tickets, restrooms and a small but very informative museum. The house and plantation were inhabited by a judge who is foundational of Tennessee law, and they keep his books there as well as many original pieces in all of the rooms.

Seem somewhat disorganized but most objects and furnishing were true to time. Tour guide was good. YOU Could emphasize Civil War History a little more.Seven Generals sat at their table and the Lion laid down with the lamb there.

Nice grounds, quick and informative tour. While not as fancy as some of the Plantations I've visited, it still holds a lot of history and has been well preserved.
