Amazing view when you reach there. Unfortunately, during the new year vacation the queue was incredible long. You can pay more, doh, and cut some waiting time. At the end, it's worth it.

This review in no way reflects our visit to the observation deck of the Empire State Building. I will no doubt go up again when I visit in the future, but I won't pay the NY Skyride crooks in the street to do so again. Like others who have reviewed, we were accosted on the street with the Skyride deal by a guy with a Skyride uniform and he convinced us he was legit. We believed him and paid $61 which include a "ride," museum tour, and no lines to the top. After entering the building we were led into a small room with a large group of others to see TV screens around the room that told some history about the building. We were then corralled into another small room to see another but similar show on screens. We then entered the ride, which was a motion ride in which your seat moves on a platform while you watch a "big" screen that is supposed to make you feel like you're flying around the city. The video was low resolution, and the motion was downright embarrassing. We then exited and waited in the same lines that everyone else had to wait in. The visit to the top was amazing and well worth every penny...unbelievable!!! After a great visit at the top, we went down and exited the building and see the ticket price sign and see that the "Express" ticket that allows you to go to the top without waiting in line (without the childish show we were forced to watch) is $50. We could have REALLY skipped all lines for $11 less than we paid. The guy who sold us our ticket worked for the building, because he had the same uniform on and a printer to print the tickets, so the building is the entity that is scamming people!!! I didn't understand until I saw that an investment firm owns the building now.$$$$$$ Go see the building, but don't buy your tickets from outside.

Would rate 0 if I could. Complete and utter con! I was approached on the street by this companies representatives and offered a fast pass through the large queue outside to the observation deck by upgrading my existing city pass ticket. Great I thought. So I was 'fast tracked' into the building but on to an absolutely abysmal 'ride' called the NY Skyride, which after queuing for turned out to be a crappy quality simulator ride that was terrible. I can't believe Kevin bacon lends his name to this scam. After the ride you are simply put into the main queue for the observation deck. Complete and utter waste of money and time, and even the official Empire State Building staff seemed ashamed that these con artists operate on their property.
