The West Midtown Ferry Terminal is a passenger bus and ferry terminal serving ferries along the Hudson River in New York City and northeastern New Jersey. It is located at Piers 78 and 79 in Hudson River Park adjacent to the West Side Highway at West 39th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The facility first opened in 1986 with the start of NY Waterway commuter ferry service.
Built largely with public funds, the West Midtown terminal is owned by the city and leased to NY Waterway, which operates ferries to eight destinations in Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Edgewater, and Belford. The ferry service refers to the terminal as Midtown / West 39th Street in scheduling. As a public terminal, the facility is open to any ferry company. NYC Ferry also uses the terminal for its St. George route.

Pure chaos. Awful customer experience. The boat tour itself is very interesting, although other competitors do it better (done the BigBus tour a couple of years ago and it was a better example experience. Maybe just luck). The staff shouldn’t be allowed to be customer facing anywhere in the world. My experience was: bought the tickets online. Had to stand one hour in a line on their store to redeem the online voucher (booked and fully paid on their own website). When we got to the pier, after another 45 minutes in a chaotic line, when finally got to the front to board, was sent inside to the office because the ticket had to be stamped... about 30 minutes after another long line, the ticket was not stamped (apparently the stamp was out of order). I have to congratulate this team, I couldn’t ever come up with a worse customer experience than this.

Its really slow here to get tickets for the ferry. Nothing good or bad, a pretty standard port for boats.

Small and cramped indoor waiting area. Not much shade outside. Longer than expected waits.
