Shaw House is an important example of an early symmetrical H-plan Elizabethan mansion, located at Shaw, on the north-eastern outskirts of Newbury in Berkshire.
The manor house of Shaw, Shaw House was built by the wealthy cloth merchant, Thomas Dolman, and completed in 1581. It is famous for its reputation as King Charles I's headquarters during the Second Battle of Newbury. However recent research has proved that, despite being at the centre of the fighting, the King never went to the house. Other Royals have visited, most notably Elizabeth I. In the 1720s, it was acquired by the flamboyant James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos. Although it was not the principal residence of the Duke, the family evidently spent some time in the area and the second Duke bought a wife at a sale in Newbury.

Went to this school apart from someones great idea....NOT!! Painting the beautiful wood panels here blue!! It's a fantastic place to visit. I have found memories of my teacher's when i was at school here especially mrs turrell!! A legend in her own right sadly missed but NEVER forgotten.
Beautiful Elizabethan House. Open to the public most days. Also a great place to work.
I haven't done the tour but such nice staff in the cafe and the weddings are lovely. The building itself is cool.
Attended a wedding there. The house is beautiful, well restaured and maintained. The outsides are quite dramatic for pictures.

Attended my sister's wedding reception here. Absolutely lovely. Perfect setting. Hidden gem that many people don't realise do weddings. Also had my little girl registered here back in 2016 and the staff were lovely and so police, professional and helpful. Perfect place.
