Cimiez (French pronunciation: [simje]; Italian:Cimella) is an upper class neighborhood in Nice, southern France. The area contains the Musée Matisse and the ruins of Cemenelum, capital of the Ancient Roman province Alpes Maritimae on the Ligurian coast. Cemenelum was an important rival of Nice, continuing to exist as a separate city till the time of the Lombard invasions. The ruins include an arena, amphitheater, thermal baths, and paleochristian basilica.
Beautiful, old monastery covered in murals. It has presence. Panoramic views of Nice from the gardens.
Beautiful place with old olive trees and nice view
An old monastery to see and perhaps to pray. The outdoor architecture is very typical ( a mix of different influences) and the indoor one is very rich decorated by very old paintings ( some from the 17th century who have been restored) and statues. There is too an ancient and very rare seraphic cross of the Christ made of stone ( a winged Christ!) near the entry ( a copy is exposed at the car park in face of the monastery). There are still a few franciscan priests. You can so see a cross of San Damiano ( the cross of Saint Francis) like the original one in Assisi, Italia. The altar is rich with an ancient golden painted wall with a lot of decorations (saints, little angels,...) and at the top a beautiful and tall statue of the holy virgin dressed in gold.
Beautiful monastery with lovely gardens.
Well preserved monastery in the northern Nice with nice views on Nice from the gardens. The church is open for visitors from 9am to 6pm, exept on Wednesdays, Sunday's ceremony and other christian holidays, though we could still enter on the Good Friday. Admission is free.
Beautiful, old monastery covered in murals. It has presence. Panoramic views of Nice from the gardens. We found a hungry cat in the gardens, which we fed

Beautiful monastery, well kept, very nice garden
Beautiful, old monastery covered in murals. It has presence. Panoramic views of Nice from the gardens. We found one Boney and hungry cat in the gardens, which we fed- tried to get hold of an animal shelter but they seemed to be too busy for one cat unfortunately:/
The gardens are the best part of the experience.
Beautiful city and the Monastery was so special. I definitely recommend and spend some time exploring the alcoves.
Joyfull place in nature
A beautiful church and cloister. The gardens are also fantastic.
