Blickling Hall is a Jacobean stately home situated in 5,000 acres of parkland in a loop of the River Bure, near the village of Blickling north of Aylsham in Norfolk, England. The mansion was built on the ruins of a Tudor building for Sir Henry Hobart from 1616 and designed by Robert Lyminge. The library at Blickling Hall contains one of the most historically significant collections of manuscripts and books in England, containing an estimated 13,000 to 14,000 volumes. The core collection was formed by Sir Richard Ellys. The property passed into the care of the National Trust in 1940.
In the 15th century, Blickling was in the possession of Sir John Fastolf of Caister in Norfolk (1380–1459), who made a fortune in the Hundred Years' War, and whose coat of arms is still on display there. Later, the property was in the possession of the Boleyn family, and home to Thomas Boleyn, later Earl of Wiltshire, and his wife Elizabeth between 1499 and 1505. Although the exact birth dates of their children are unknown, historians including Eric Ives are confident that all three surviving children were likely born at Blickling – Mary in about 1500, George in about 1504, and Anne in about 1507. A statue and portrait of Anne may be found at Blickling Estate which carry the inscription, "Anna Bolena hic nata 1507" (Anne Boleyn born here 1507).
This is a wonderful, stunning, incredible, beautiful, place to visit at anytime of the year. There is something for everyone young and old alike, the Hall is so full of history. They even have a fabulous display about one of the Airfields close by. And all run by Volunteers. The Gardens are stunning the food in the Cafe is of a great standard and a very good choice, the price is about the same as most places nowadays. At the stable block there is the most amazing secondhand book shop we have ever been in, with quite literally all books from A to Z on nearly every subject you can think of all for you to browse and purchase if you want and the prices are excellent. We have been back to Blickling Hall so many times it now feels like we are going home. Enjoy

Walk around these grounds once a year when we holiday in Norfolk. Definitely my happy place. Take your camera and visit all year round. The gorgeous lake, woodland and house. Amazing!

Plenty of parking across several areas and coffee shops in the welcome centre and main house. A good National Trust gift shop and terrific gardens. Walks are from 1.9 miles to circa 6 miles around a large lake, gardens and woodland areas. Ideal spot to explore and visit time and time again!

Great Park for walking and 3 nice places for coffee/lunch including the Buckingham Arms, which is a dog friendly pup. The hall itself is one of the most spectacular Jacobean buildings in the country and well worth a visit. The only negative is the flat rate of £5 for the carp park with a machine only taking coins.

Stunning Estate and buildings it’s just a shame that the website nor the ticket office mentioned that the house had been ‘put to bed’ and proceeded to let us pay for full price tickets. The majority of the rooms were covered in dust cloths so you couldn’t see much. Favourite part of the trip was the member of staff who told me about her experience of New Zealand and how terrible it was after over hearing I was moving there. After listening to her for the brief amount of time we did, it was clear the country wasn’t the problem. Sadly one star for the lack of information regarding the state of the rooms after purchasing tickets, the lack of information in general regarding the history of Blickling and finally for the member of staff that should understand if you go to New Zealand in Winter at the arse end of the North Island it’s not gonna be tropical and no one cares about your poorly planned holiday nor do they want to hear about it.

Really nice estate we enjoyed walking around here. It was a foggy day but still well worth the visit. The grounds are well kept and I can see this being a busy place in the summer, there is lots of areas to sit and have a picnic or there is the onsite cafe and the local pub (also in the grounds). Totally recommend a visit if you love big stately homes

Wow! What a fabulous day at Blickling Hall and gardens. We started with a wander around the gardens and could see how wonderful they would look in Summer. We then went to the house. We were greated by a lovely man named Phillip who told us about about the history of the front of house. We then proceeded to find out more great things by other helpful volunteers. The cafe served food with a smile and was very reasonably priced. The day was finished with a trip to the shop with a purchase for a present for the garden...well who can resist a plant!

This place is lovely. An amazing day out for the whole family and lots to do. All the staff are really friendly and the food in the cafes is of a good quality.. Also there's a pub right on the the main grounds which is always handy!!

Lovely day out. Kids enjoyed the Easter trail which takes you around the gardens and then claim a rabbit shortbread at the end. Cafe as with all national trust property's do a selection of cakes ect and kids lunches which are reasonably priced. Nice little gift shop. We didn't get a chance to go round the raf museum however will do that another Day. House was great and they are happy for you to take pictures as long as no flash. Very informative volunteers. Will return again soon.

Absolutely stunning, Hall and gardens. Tree peony display, amazing! We followed woodland tracks in the sunshine, serenaded by birds too numerous to mention. Took photos of flowers, newts, water voles etc. The walled kitchen garden is the best I have seen, bit off track but well worth a visit plus you walk past the newt pond. Great spotted woodpecker entertained us as we ate our lunch. He came number of times to feed on the seed poles set in the cafe garden.. Excellent day out. Well impressed.

Really nice day out on are bikes. Found out you can hire a bike for five pound a day. Lots of different tracks you can take. Lots of photos spots on the way and romantic views. Bike hire people are very friendly and knowledgeable. So much to see and do. Will be going again and again. Might even get a trust car park pass for it

The grounds around the mansion are absolutely gorgeous and beautifully kept. The mansion is also lovely and makes for an interesting visit. I'm not sure if guided tours are offered, but they weren't when I was there, which is too bad, as they are a great plus. For the needs of a fund raiser for the preservation of the library's books, the mansion's library had been re-arranged to hold a large exhibit built with books. I hope that the hall will be re-instated to it's previous arrangement once this fund raiser is over.

Blickling Estate is a lovely estate tucked away in the heart of Norfolk countryside. Surrounded by fields and wildlife. It's a National Trust site, with plenty of staff on hand to help and advise. We went for a bike ride around the estate and lake, it was a bit bumpy and off the beaten track in places, but there are some well maintained paths. Views are amazing, you'll want to stop and take plenty of photographs! When we reached the lake it was peaceful and still, we sat on one of many benches and listened to the birds singing. Lots of walking opportunities, dogs are welcome but must be on a lead because of wondering sheep and cattle. The views of the house were amazing and although we didn't go in it was nice to see. Parking was charged at £5 all day, free if you belong to the national trust. There were toilets and a cafe at the carpark and cycle hire which was £5 a day, we thought that was a bargain! Will definitely be visiting again!

Lovely big house set within many acres of land. There is loads to see in the house and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It is outside that most visitors will probably get the best value for money though. You can take a walk through the well manicured formal gardens, or the walled garden (maybe even the lovely peaceful secret garden). There is a large lake to relax by and more informal areas. The only disappointment was that the orangery was closed on the day we visited.

Excellent day out. Lots to see. Acres and acres of land to roam in. We had a great guided walk in the woods with Julian, one of the volunteers. Not sure about the "installation" that's there at the moment, I didn't really like that. But the hall and grounds are fantastic

The grounds are both beautiful and the main walks are wheelchair accessible so long as you have reasonably solid tires or somebody willing to push you. You can borrow both wheelchairs and mobility scooters from this house, the lower areas of the visitor centre are wheelchair accessible and much of the house is wheelchair accessible, which is, given it is a historic building, surprisingly good. I recommend asking the nearest guide or volunteer to use the lift to access the Upper floors. Customer service is excellent and of the quality you expect from a National trust property. Both the cafe and the restaurant serve good food. I would recommend the baked potato and the scones.
Zoe ArnoldJul 21, 2018
A good day out. The walks around the estate are very good with nice views of the house. The hall itself is interesting, although only a 40 minute or so activity. Beautiful gardens too that are good photo opportunities. For non National Trust members it’s an expensive day out. Best to go during warm weather if you want to fully enjoy the woodland walks.

Spent 2 weeks on a caravan rally in the grounds of Blickling Hall Estate. I absolutely adore this place. My father was stationed here at RAF Oulton during the war & he talked about Blickling so it was wonderful to visit this magnificent house & grounds. Staff were amazing & so kind & helpful. The RAF museum was really interesting & some of the stories of the airmen were so sad, these men must never be forgotten . Thank you to everyone who made my visit so special. I will certainly return.
