Black Rocks (or Stonnis Rocks), is a small outcrop of ashover gritstone, between Cromford and Wirksworth in Derbyshire, the Peak District, England. It is an important crag in the history of British rock climbing, and has some of the most extreme climbing routes in Britain, including Gaia.
The crag has been a well-known traditional climbing venue since the 1890s, and features in the early 1913 guidebook, Some Gritstone Climbs. Black Rocks has some easier traditional climbing routes of grades Diff to VS 4c, and a selection of short bouldering problems of grades V0Â (4) to V9Â (7C), however, it is most noted for its historic extreme traditional climbing routes put up in the mid-1980s to the early 2000s. Its northerly aspect means that it is frequently in damp condition (and even covered in a green algae), however, the sandstone-like gritstone rock dries reasonably quickly.
Good climbing roots but a bit mossy and wet on the rear side of it.

One of the many great view points in Derbyshire and it's just a short walk from my back door. The rocks could do with a good shot blasting to clean all the teenage graffiti.

Beautiful place with stunning views and a great place to watch the sun set. Care needs to be taken of some very steep drops if climbing onto the rocks. Plenty of flat paths with great views for those who don't fancy climbing. Cheap parking.

A truly amazing place with stunning views from the top of the magnificent rocks. Also some lovely walks for all ages and abilities. Only downside, apart from the parking charges, was the amount of litter, especially at the top or the rocks. They need to get the rangers to step up a little or I am sure there are plenty of volunteers who would be willing to help. Also a few litter bins or signs asking people to take their litter away with them. Mother nature has made a great job with this area, it's a pity people won't do the same. Still a stunning place and worth a visit, especially if you are into rc 4x4s, like me, or mountain biking.

Beautiful place walked round here as part of a hike round Matlock and Matlock bath. Sadly let down by the amount of rubbish and beer bottles on the rocks. Next time if you can be bothered to take it up there then at least have the decency to take it back with you. The car parks have loads of bins. USE THEM!

Beautiful place, watched the sunset with a picnic with my partner on a beautiful hot day on top of the rocks, quiet dangerous if windy especially on the edge.
