Baiterek (Kazakh: Бәйтерек, romanized: Bäiterek; "tall poplar tree") is a monument and observation tower in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan. A tourist attraction popular with foreign visitors and Kazakhs, it is emblematic of the city, which became capital of the country in 1997. The tower is located on Nurjol Boulevard, and is considered a symbol of post-independence Kazakhstan.
The project was launched on the initiative of the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev; the architect of the project is Akmurza Rustembekov.
That's obligatory point to visit in Astana. I visited Bayterek Tower in the middle of January, weekday, middle of the day. No queues, just a few people on the top, access 700 KZT (on 22.01.2018). Small shop with snacks and hot drinks at the top. Be prepared for security control at the entrance. Very nice views on the Astana, but if you wish to take a good photo (if you are pro photographer for example), yellow color of dome's glass will not help you.

Almost impressive but this tower has something, I don't know, artificial? It seems that it isn't from this place, it don't belongs to this space, it hasn't a connection with the tradition, history, culture and so on from Astana, from Kazakhstan. Maybe it was an architectural mistake? Even the tower is a masterpiece, of course...

Located in downtown Astana, makes a great cheap attraction to visit. Great views of the city and fun activity. Recommended!

Definitely must see if you are visiting Astana. Nice views during the day, amazing show after sunset. There is a light show, between 8-10pm I think, and it is sooo nice. Staff is helpful and friendly, and the entry fee also, really great. Absolutely worth it.

This should be the main symbol of Astana, 97 meters high. You can have an overall look at the city from the top of the building. There is an elevator in the core of the building, which takes people to the top part, which is in the form of a transparent sphere, from where you can see the city and the steps behind. It is located in the center of the new part of the city. There are usually different events in its nearby. It is located in between the famous Khanshatyr and the presidental house of Kazakhstan. A great place to take evening walks in the summer time (freezing cold in the winter evenings, though!).

Nice place for tourists. You can enjoy small art gallery at ground floor. And enjoy the view at the top!

The Bayterek Tower is the symbol of power in the grandiose though somewhat artificial governmental and presidential areas of Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. It is very much worthwhile to visit the tower to the top - not only does it afford great views of the surroundings, but one can also fit ones hand into the hand print of the great leader.

Spectacular tower with great views. I wish the golden windows would be better to see through.

Really worth going there. Tickets are cheap, like 2-3 USD. Good sight on the city, but what's more important, you can see urban layout which is unusual as Astana's downtown looks... symetric.

It costed 500 tenge when I visited to go inside. View is not that bad. Wish it was higher.

Good view, but there was a bit movement from wind that made me sick from tower movement

Spectacular tower with great views. I wish the golden windows would be better to see through. At the top you can put your hands in a mold of the hands of the president. More beautiful from the outside than the inside. Great place for a short visit.

Tower designed by the president himself to establish a base stone for construction of new city. Unique design referring the nest of the golden eagle with golden egg. One can view all city from the top of the nest.

Landmark as any other. Better viewed in the dark when it's also illuminated.
