Собор Христа — Света от Света (англ. Cathedral of Christ the Light) — католическая церковь, находящаяся в городе Окленд, США.
Very spiritual experience... All the windows, light and great Catholics

I'm torn. While I think the complex has some nice architecture, the whole world of catholic creepiness pervades everything. The Cathedral itself is better on the inside than the outside, which looks like it's paved with shower doors. What a pity they opted to mask the massive, sexy bent wood ribs that support the sides and roof of the yoni-shaped space. But on the inside, the echoing starkness of the concrete walls sets off the smaller chapels tucked away along the sides. And the alter looks like a random wall of 2 x 4s, splayed out in a loose arc behind the alter. The huge digital saint I can take or leave. It seems like perhaps a color, or a video of the sea, would bring more life to the space. There's also a small garden that memorialized the children abused by priests, something that the church should display as a vivid apology for the worldwide scandal that continues to unfold, but try and find it. It's guiltily tucked away on the Grand Avenue corner, just grass, a couple curving benches backed by boxwood hedges, and a boulder with a plaque. It feels more like they're taking the same attitude that Nixon took towards Watergate. Yes, it may have happened, but, no, we're still not taking spiritual responsibility, and they continue to blame shortfalls in charity and conservation programs on the victims who sued the church. So, while it's a notable and obviously very expensive building complex, everything else shouts business as usual. If you want spirituality and bliss, bring it with you. I you want to make sure that Gothic eeriness can thrive in a modernist building, this is the place for you.

the building is bright and acoustics are good. that's all I'll say here. not going to get into why or when it was built.

Beautiful place, nice place to rest. Parking is available during mass and confession times: T/Th 11 to noon, W 6:30, Sat 4:20 to 5:15pm.( Lacks permanent adoration chapel). Confession times are limited to business hours, but better than other churches who only have one day one hour confession. Great place for meetings, plenty of masses though could have more, lacks community catholic events, promotes little to nothing catholic multiculturalism & faith, charges high fees(donations) for baptism or weddings or what not. Teaches dogma with difficulty, when it does, charges for what should be free (for people have already paid with mass collections) lacks core participation in issues of faith, lacks evangelization ministries. No priest, nuns or deacons available if one wants to talk to one.

I am no Christian, but this church transmits a lot of peace inside, besides being so beautiful and having a incredible architecture.

Choral Singers and Brass Horn Players are professionals. Music and processions invoke solemnity with friendly community of church goers. Give it a go.

Free to enter and take photos as long as service isn't happening. Great architectural features throughout the site. The interior is majestic and I recommend you take the time to take it all in. There is also a gift shop which is recommended. Be respectful of the space and enjoy!

This cathedral is one of a kind because its design. It's not shaped like a cross, but instead in the shape of a fish. It's an architectural marvel.

It's an amazing building. This is what you build nowadays -- shame they don't build basilica like they used to -- in a way, I guess that's what the shape is. Looks like a vagina to me. I don't believe in this stuff, but I do like the architecture and art.

Truly wonderful cathedral! Located at the Lake, beautifully designed, artistically unique in many ways. Much to appreciate in this holy place. Built in conjunction with the large Business complex recently built here as part of Oakland's redevelopment. Open every day to the faithful and to visitors. Good amenities and gift shop. Insufficient parking on weekdays for all of the businesses here, but on Sundays it is quiet and serene.

Absolutely gorgeous from the architecture to the organ. Just passing though, but I hope the admin and liturgies are as beautiful as the ambience.

This is a great place to be near God after a tiring morning to deal with a horrible tenant-landlord issue.
