Oakland Aviation Museum, formerly called Western Aerospace Museum, was founded in 1981 as a non-profit organization operating an aviation museum located at North Field of Oakland International Airport in Oakland, California. It has over 30 vintage and modern airplanes, both civilian and military, and other displays that highlight noted aviators and innovators.

This is a hidden gem in the east bay, close to Oakland International Airport. Friendly staff and free parking. You can enjoy a leisurely visit of historic aviators and aircraft. There are a variety of aircraft in a hanger and more aircraft outside including the Silent flying boat. The last one in existence. I highly recommend the weekend tour of the flying boat. Dale the docent is terrific, so knowledgeable about the flying boat and the history of this craft. Have a great visit and learn about aviation history.
This is a great air museum with lots of actual civilian & military planes and exhibits about early flight pioneers and other contributors to the history of flight. Some really nice exhibits about African-American pilots (first black female pilot, Tuskegee Airmen of WWII, & more) and female pilots of air and space. This is a very family-friendly museum with several planes for kids to sit in. Lots of things that kids can see and touch up close. At certain times, you can enter the cockpits, although when we went, there were no cockpit times. You can even book the museum for weddings and other events. It's great to see the different larger planes outside to get a perspective of the size and scale as they are sitting near each other. Even the staff and tour guides have a great passion for planes. If you love planes, you'll like this museum.
Good for children who love planes. But beware you cannot touch most planes. Tough for toddlers.
Very interesting great history and impressive collection of planes
Amazing place! I only had less than an hour to explore, but the displays are breath taking. Especially the outdoor portion of the museum. I'm definitely coming back when I have more time to properly enjoy.
A great look into local aviation history. Open cockpit day is humming!
Love this place, l enjoyed looking at all the airplanes. Is was a good experience, You should try it.
A lot of people don't know about this place?? (but that means it's usually not crowded!) It's a great place to take kids - they love looking at all the different planes and there are some hands-on activities as well. There's also plenty there for the "grown-ups" to look at and learn about
Was there for a work meeting. Great place to have as a venue. The planes and environment were really nice.
Really cool and informational. The volunteer staff has a really good knowledge of everything there.
Loved the experience....Dale was very knowledgeable and Gayle is awesome too. Ty
We had an incredible time at the Oakland Aviation Museum!! It is so worth the trip! Dale shared amazing stories with us and let my son fly the simulator! All the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We’re from out of state but already looking forward to another visit on a return trip!
The Oakland Aviation Museum is a great place. It has many aircrafts inside and outside. Also twice a year you can go inside all the planes. Lots of history to learn there.
A good start for a small museum. Needs a broader selection of artifacts. If you have a few minutes to kill check it out
Great little gem of a museum. It's worth it to pay extra for the tour of the amphibious plane. The dosuns are knowledgeable and flew the aircraft they talk about. Oh and the simulator is amazing. Worth every penny!
Great museum. Interesting facts and individual background for each aircraft. Their large hydroplane starred in a Indiana Jones movie.
