Place was beautiful. The staff was good. The tour instructor Argentina was very kind and helpful. And this place has great jerk chicken and drinks.
“VIP” is an underestimate. Unorganized. Was a nice spot with a beautiful beach... however, we tried this excursion with our cruise and the time we actually got to spend on the beach was minimal since it’s an 1.5 hour drive one way to get to the spot. If you want to be able to have time to look at the gift shops and such... I would go with a different excursion. We didn’t have any time to look at the shops at the port and the “gift shop” at the bamboo beach club sucked. The “four course meal” on the beach was so disappointing. Portions were tiny... had to consistently ask our tour guide (if we could find him) for the food and beverages... got our dessert as we were sitting on the bus ride home. The VIP spot was overcrowded and a lot of the chairs weren’t by the water but we’re up back behind some trees. Bummer.
This VIP party was booked through Norwegian Cruise Lines. I was on the ship "Epic". This was a lovely shore excursion, a chance to enjoy great local cuisine and a cultural performance by local dancers and mucians. The transportation to and from the site, food and alcohol were all inclusive. You are right on the beach and able to take advantage of all that entails. Take a Caribbean cruise and check it out.
WARNING STRONG UNDERTOW! Went with our ship excursion VIP option. Guides were great, food was good but I find it was pricey for what we got. Beach was beautiful but rocky and there was a strong undertow with no flags on the beach or any warnings. I could have easily been pulled out but I was cautious. Two other swimmers got pulled out and required assistance. Thank God there was a life guard not too far and some other guest had a lifejacket which helped also.
PROS: Relaxing Clean beach Good food and great drinks CONS: Some rocky areas in the water, so water shoes are advised. Service can be slow to get drinks and food. Overall we mostly enjoyed our time here, though it did seem a touch crowded. We came from the Falmouth port, so the drive was about an hour or so. On our way back we did take a 20 minute stop to "shop". This wasn't too excited as they basically took us to a single building that was probably owned by the same person that owns the club. RECOMMENDATIONS: Order a couple drinks/food at a time so that you're not waiting around. Or get used to walking to the bar/lunch table. Wear water shoes if you plan on going in the ocean. Go to the bathroom before you leave for Bamboo Beach Club and before you head back to port. Shop at the port shops. They're nice and mostly fair priced. You can even barter with some of the shops.
Had a nice visit here with my family. we got the cliff side massage for $40.00, cant go wrong. pros: everyone was very pleasant and the view was beautiful, and the food was ok, 7/10. the cons: the sand here is very cores, as if its graded limestone. they are servery understaffed. (not the employees fault). had to wait a while to be served but they got there, but 2 attendants for 100 people is a bit ridiculous, food leaves something to be desired. over all it was a good experience but leaves a lot for improvement.
We had a lovely day on the beach, we went on a Sunday and it was quiet. They had a German company filming that day and half of the beach was cordoned off for them but we still had to pay full price of $10 (about 120 Jamaican dollars) each. The sea was so warm and it was very relaxing. Drinks and food were available but not cheap...there are also gifts available to purchase - also available elsewhere in Ocho for a lot cheaper. There were plently of sunbeds, hammock, tables / chairs etc. Best place to swim is the right side of the beach furthest from entrance as there aren't any rocks that side - failing that wear swimming shoes to protect your feet.
This is my favorite place to relax and recharge to face the coming week ahead. The beach is beautiful and the service excellent. Definitely worth the drive from Kingston. This is not a free beach, so be prepared to pay to enter.
The $39 drinks and food was worth every penny. We got a $35 massage, laid out in the sun reading and playing in the ocean while being fed all day. One of the best decision's I made while in Jamaica.
Booked this excursion through Royal Caribbean in April. We had done an all inclusive excursion at this stop before, and were quite pleased. The Bamboo Beach Club was NOT that place. The lunch was pretty good, but other than that, not so much. The bus ride, although interesting, was long. 1.25 hours each way. The beach is steep and fairly rocky. The beach entertainment was minimal at best. The 3 "dancers" gave a minimal performance for a few minutes and disappeared. The drinks were awful. And we booked the VIP package! Hate to see what the standard package would have been. We should have booked the Blue Waters Beach Escape. Much closer to the port. That must have been the one we did before. Anyway, as experienced cruisers (35+cruises), we would not recommend this excursion to the Bamboo Beach Club in Ohco Rios.
This is not the place to go if you're looking for a relaxing day at the beach. The staff is very friendly and it's a beautiful spot, but it's just so touristy, loud and contrived. I wish that instead of bringing food and beverages over to us, that we could have just gone to a counter to order something or even to just have access to a small buffet. You end up spending most of the time there hoping someone will come by with a beverage or food item that you actually want (which happens very randomly) and not wanting to get into the water in case you'll miss your lunch. Also, the music is so incredibly loud that it is almost impossible to talk or really, to even function. The live performances are a bit surreal too, the dancing isn't "traditional" as advertised, in fact it's not even what you would see in a club in Jamaica. Basically there are multiple, very talented, beautiful woman dancing like they are working at a strip club (only keeping on their clothing) with loud dance music blaring till you feel like your ears are going to bleed (which is saying a lot since I love loud music and going to concerts). Because the place is advertised as family friendly the dancing makes for a weird experience. The men, usually there with their wives, spend most of the time trying not to watch the sexy woman gyrating in front of them, while the women watch the dancing politely but awkwardly. They do have one male dancer who shows up every few songs and dances like he's having a blast, he's a lot of fun to watch. I wish they'd let the female dancers do that too, instead of trying to create a beach front Hooters experience...
Sand was a little rough and I didn't like that there were only select locations in the water that weren't rock. Beautiful and great guided tour bus ride there from the port. I don't like all the fruity drinks and the servers seems a little put off when I requested vodka and seven. Overall I would recommend - especially if you love fruity drinks, and go back!
Stunning beach with beautiful colored water and wrapped in cliffs that make it look like the location for the movie "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio. There is a hefty entrance fee to get in so you won't see any locals using this beach. For the fee you can use the lounge chairs and you are supposed to get a server. You have to bring your own towel and the menu is overpriced. They cater mostly to cruise ship business so when a ship is in town this beach can be packed. The best part of that is the dancers and performers that come out when there are crowds. This beach is picturesque but the sand is very rocky and the beach drops off very quickly to be deep so it is not a great swimming beach and not great for small children.
I had an amazing time at Bamboo Beach Club. I came here on a guided tour from the Royal Caribbean ship. The guide was fun and friendly. At the club, I got lobster and jerk chicken for lunch, along with a local beer. Desert was a delicious rum cake. Maybe not the best way to see Jamaica, but for a couple of honeymooners looking to relax on a budget, we had a great time.
Expensive food and entry(free after 5pm)for non-tourists. Water gets deep pretty quickly. Otherwise nice amenities and friendly staff even if you can't afford their wares.
I loved this place. The beach was nice, the food was good, the Jamaican women were hot, they continuously bring out mimosas, etc. very neat and clean. Went here as a cruise excursion and it was he highlight of the entire vacation. I was in the “exclusive” area only so the other areas I cannot speak to.
