Die Sophienkirche (mazedonisch-kyrillisch Црква Света Софија, Crkva Sveta Sofija) ist ein byzantinischer Kirchenbau in der Stadt Ohrid in Nordmazedonien.
Bei der Kirche handelt es sich um eine dreischiffige Pfeilerbasilika mit im Westen vorgelagertem Narthex und Exonarthex und einem an der Nordseite angebauten Portikus. Sie ist vom Staat denkmalgeschützt.

So pretty when well lit at night time. It is a very peaceful feeling to walk there and see the church brightened up. Worth a visit.

This is a famous church in Ohrid. The church is depicted on the Macedonian 1000 denari banknote.

Can see some ancient fresco, however not allowed to go to 2nd floor. But from afar it seems like there are more frescos on the 2nd floor.

After traveling most of the world this is the FIRST time I've been asked to pay to go into a church. It made me sad for this country. Don't commercialize churches!

St. Sofia. This church represents one of the most important sights in Macedonia with its medieval architecture and frescoes. This is one of the largest medieval churches in this region. For a long time it was a cathedral church of the Ohrid Archbishopric

Best part of the old part. You can see how much was saved from the old days and they didn't reconstruct much which is a plus. One of my favourite buildings in Ohrid so far.

It costs money to actually go in and see it, but you can get some good photos from the outside as well. Several cafes overlook it so it can be a good area to relax for a while.
