Eden Camp Modern History Museum is a large Second World War-related museum near Malton in North Yorkshire in England.
It occupies a former Second World War prisoner-of-war camp of 33 huts. After the prisoners left, the camp was used for storage and then abandoned. Its grounds then became overgrown. As the museum was being set up, much clearing, as well as repair and renovation of the buildings, was required.
I visited here when I was in primary school on a school trip and have always wanted to return with my own children one day. We visited as a family along with our 2 friends and their children this weekend and it was an absolutely perfect day out. Our kids ages ranged from 3 to 7 years and all of them loved something different about the day. The huts are all very informative and exciting to look around. The smells created for an authentic experience are all still as strong and enjoyable as they were 20 years ago when I visited as a child. Everything has been excellently cared for and looked after and it was just as interesting to view as an adult as it was when I was young. The large wooden play area was a huge hit with all the kids too as an added bonus at the end of our day. We look forward to visiting again soon!

Superb piece of history. Lots to see, feel and smell. Great way for children and adults alike to learn what it was like during the war. Not very expensive either!! Well worth seeing

Absolutely brilliant. Very historic and learn quite a lot. Great for kids or school trips. My son thoroughly enjoyed it. There's also a cafe/restaurant with plenty to choose from at good prices.

What a fantastic day out. All the family found Eden Camp fascinating and very well presented. Massive collection of military memorabilia and emotional exhibitions throughout. I have to commend the staff for making our visit a truly memorable one and for continuing to educate everyone on the horrors, honour and bravery of conflict throughout history. Well done.

Amazing place to learn about local and global history. Spent all day there from gates opening to closing, but only just had enough time to get round the whole place. No matter what the weather this place is always freezing cold! So wrap up warm.

Eden Camp is a WW2 prisoner of war camp and the huts are all original. The displays in each hut are very good and the various destinations in well laid out notice boards. Each hut covers a different part of the war and various experiences. This place is well presented, value for money and even has an area for young children to let of steam. You really need more than a day to fully appreciate the whole experience. You can buy refreshments but if you have a large party this will be expensive. Overall a great place for young and old bringing history to life. Well worth a visit and not too expensive as you can return on the same ticket within a month of purchase.

Very enjoyable day out. Although I am a student of WW2 history there was lots of new information to discover. For 5 stars the camp would need to host more military equipment and weapons.

Been there today with my wife and 3 children. All I can say is that it was fantastic day out.. amazing learning experience while having a day out. The layout is brilliant and the grounds beautifully kept. Staff r great and the smells just topped it off. Really helps u understand the struggles and elders went through. Great day at a great price. Highly recommend. Brilliant.

What can I say that emphasises the importance of this museum? I guess you will have to go and find out. A firm favourite in my household and the kids love it walking around here. There's so much to see and a play park area for the kids. Toilets, parking and a restaurant. Always look forward to the gift shop too. Really well maintained and a real walk around the past. You can imagine yourself in the blitz, in a submarine and get inside a bomb shelter. Also look out for the horn when you pull the chain in the submarine toilet. Not many people seem to know about that.

Very enjoyable day out. Lots to see and great for dogs. We spent almost four hours there. Great all weather facility, with lots of parking just a few feet away from the buildings. This means it was handy if the dog got tired, or you simply needed to go back to the car. Great for children; particularly those doing WWII history at school. Fab day out. Thank you.

Fantastic place, a day isn't enough to explore. Really interesting displays and information. Brilliant puppet show put on in the music hall was great for the kids. Two climbing play areas, one for five and under the other for over fives. The Cafe/Restaurant served good old fashioned comfort food at a reasonable price. Great shop selling old time gifts, preserves and alcohol. Once you've paid to get in you can use your receipt to go again within a certain amount of time. Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic place to visit. If you are remotely interested in WW2 memorabilia you will love the Eden Camp. It has everything of note and more. It also has a restaurant which is good because you need to spend the whole day there if you want to see every thing on show. I would definitely recommend The Eden Camp to anyone looking for a great day out.

This is an excellent place, giving insight, information and experience about (mainly) the 2WW – although other 20th century wars are featured. There is a vast amount of information and detail but fortunately there are also more accessible ways of experiencing the content, with some parts aiming to help the visitor experience what it must have been like to live through these times, both at home and away at war. Plenty of car parking and good cafe/restaurant.

Lots of detailed information to read but really too much to take in. Been best to offer brief summaries of each subject. Tiring day. Great if you were really interested in a particular topic. The scenes depicting many situations in 'reality' were very good

A fantastic wartime and modern history museum that is housed in a former POW camp. The exhibits in the huts are logically laid out and well marked with a recommended route to follow. The information in each is extensive with some excellent, atmospheric dioramas. Also on site is a comprehensive restaurant/cafe/bar which also houses a large collection of medals. Dotted around the grounds are various military vehicles, artillery pieces and aircraft. Two surprise and delight moments for me were the barbed wire and poppy planting between two of the huts which recreated a scene from the trenches of WW1 and the kitchen garden around the WW2 wartime prefab. Real attention to detail. Plan to be there for a full day as there is a lot of information to take in. Oh, another thing. The whole place is dog friendly though a couple of the sound effects in the darkened, very atmospheric dioramas may spook a dog of a nervous disposition.
