Oldway Mansion is a large house and gardens in Paignton, Devon, England. It was built as a private residence for Isaac Singer (1811–1875), and rebuilt by his son Paris Singer in the style of the Palace of Versailles.
Left to ruin. Shame
An 'ICONIC' building of ages past which has featured in 'historic films'.....Reports are forecast that this 'iconic' property is to be sold in the near future.....From the mansion lawns the building is impressive, with ornate flower gardens adding 'romance' to the once, 'SINGER' family home. (of the world famous sewing machine company). An opportunity to use the building as a public library was missed, with millions being spent on a new library at Paignton. Torbay Council vacated the mansion over three years ago, the proposed development of this heritage site unobtainable. The 'mansion' still stands empty, its 'grandly painted' interior ceilings over the marble staircases captivated by only the silence with in. With imaginative flare and professional promotional skills who knows what 'revenue' this 'elegantly romantic iconic mansion', could generate, whilst being a 'centre piece' of "RIVIERA HISTORY", all year.....

This place is amazing, however Torbay council needs to hand the place to a trust to run, for the people of paignton.
Great place to visit and chill, there are acres of award winning gardens, it has two tennis courts to be used for free, also great for walking dogs and has two enclosed areas for you to walk dogs in.
Looking a litte more shabby than in its heyday but still an imposing building, with pleasant grounds which include a par-terre, a grotto and a fine interior that has an impressive marble staircase, surrounded by gilt and mirrors, with a ceiling mural in classical design. All very a la Versailles, courtesy of the Singer family. Sewing machines eh? Must have been the i-pads of their day!
Got married here 40 years ago this year and Oldway Mansion now looks sad. Vacant and guarded by security. It needs some creative ideas from Torbay council and local people. Come guys, let's not have another wonderful building left to rot. Gardens are still cared for and well used by locals, including tennis courts.
