If you like such places you should go there. It's not too scary. And you can think there a bit about life.
Mark Edwards | янв. 23, 2018
A most unusual find. Hundreds of mummified bodies lining the walls, embalmed from as early as the 16th century. Entrance was only €3 pet person. A must see. Take the hop on hop off yellow bus "open aitour" , get off at stop 8 and it's a 15 minutes walk north east.

Nothing quite like it I've ever visited before or since - well worth a visit. Bit out of the way in the town but easy enough to get to. A creepy and possibly unsettling experience for some. The Church 'staff' weren't that friendly though.

people should learn this is a prayer / meditation place. you are supposed to behave properly. not to shout, not to make growls or zombie talk. that is, to respect the place and the other visitors. the meaning of the catacombe is to remind you you shall also be dead: and i wish for you the sooner the least respect you pay to the ones buried there.

If you aren't a easy scary person, that will be a amazing experience! The entrance are only 3€ . And you can see 1252 mummies. Inside are diferents places with rooms for kids mummies, woman, priests, officers, virgins. And, in the end you can se the most news mummies, and THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MUMMI IN THE WORLD : ROSALIA LOMBARDO.

A most macabre, but the most fascinating place you're ever likely to experience. There are no barriers between the living and the dead down here in these ancient catacombs, so it's not a place for the squeamish or the faint hearted. Not suitable for children and please remember to be reverent and respectful, this is not a sideshow.

A very intriguing place which houses the remains of hundreds of people who once inhabited the streets of Palermo. The bodies, dating from the period between 1599 and roughly 1880 give you a good idea about the fashion of those days. Obviously wandering pass all those decaying skeletons makes you fantasize about the past, what Palermo was like when they were alive, and makes you think about life and death. Altogether, absolutely worth the €3,- entrance fee.

Absolutely fascinating place. Rosalia is beautiful outstanding embalming work. To those of you rateing one star shame on you! This is how this culture and time era valued their dead. keep your small minded comments to yourself!

Really cool place to visit. A bit creepy. You can't take pictures inside.

Well, like most of the reviews here, 'interesting if you like that sort of thing', or haven't seen catacombs before. Not a visit that needs repeating, really. Amazing how any part of the human flesh is still there after hundreds of years.... Signs in many places amongst the corpses 'no photos', but there are plenty posted on this site.

The place is interesting but it would be much better if you can find some more information about the people buried there. Signs with dates and some histories in different languages would be very helpful, otherwise you feel like if were staring at some dead bodies and that's all. Be aware that the place is closed from 1pm to 3pm!

The best part of it was the free parking in front. We left our car there and explore the rest of Palermo without driving inside the city centre.

This place is suitable for: - Those interested in death - Those unperturbed by death - Those with a strong constitution - Those who don't mind visiting quite possibly the most hauntingly thought-provoking place on the planet. It is unsuitable for: - Those who think it's acceptable to talk loudly and even laugh while inside the grave of over 8,000 people (looking at you, American and British tourists) - Those who think this'll bring up their breakfast...and if you think it will, even for a second, then you're right; it will. The Palermo Cappuccini Catacombes are quite simply not of this world; when you visit this place, you *will* be put face to face and eye to eye with death in its most raw form. There are bodies in here which haven't seen life in over half a millennium, yet still retain their full facial features (yes, even the eyes). So the choice is simple; if none of the above puts you off, visit. You won't be disappointed. If, however, it does...perhaps you should visit the Norman Palace instead? :)

Something different if you like those sort of things. Worth to see for sure. You can literary feel that you are moving back time. It could be little bit overwhelming if you are more sensitive but I recommend it.

It’s an interesting place to visit. A little out of the way from the center of the city but still walkable. It’s a weirdly fascinating place to visit. The big downside is the lack of context. There’s nothing to help you understand why are these people there, what started this and who are these people.

Big experience - even for the fainthearted..! Kind of unreal being so close to death - and the dead. Impressive that they manage to keep the bodies in such a good shape - being dead as they are... It's even a big experience for kids - makes them think and wonder.

Interesting place to see. I recommend to see it. In 2018, a ticket costs 3€. But I'm not sure if it's good to bring children too !
Mark Stretton | июль 17, 2018
Interesting place, but I don't know why people agree to have their bodies publicly displayed. Also surprised at the condition of the bodies when it's actually quite warm in the catacombs.
