The Royal Jomtien Resort Hotel was a 450-room luxury hotel situated in a 17-story high-rise building on the northern end of Jomtien Beach, 110 kilometres (68 mi) south of Bangkok. At approximately 10:20 local time (03:20 GMT), 11 July 1997, a fire ignited as a result of a faulty liquid propane gas cylinder in a ground floor buffet of the hotel. The fire burned for 8 to 12 hours across all floors and caused the deaths of at least 91 people and injuries to a further 63.
A National Fire Protection Association report attributed the ignition of the fire to human error by a worker who had identified faulty valve assembly on gas cylinder in a ground-floor buffet; while attempting to shut off the valve, the worker inadvertently increased the flow of gas and caused an explosion. The combustible wood and vinyl furnishings of the establishment allowed the fire to develop rapidly, as did a lack of fire separation, compartmentation and active suppression systems. As acrid smoke overcame the entire complex, several victims reportedly jumped from the higher windows to their deaths.

FOOD POISONING! 1 man died after a WHOLE group got food poisoning at the hotel. Others were lucky enough and not died, but one man did! Worst of the worst is that they are trying to hide this fact, is unethical. In stead of storing fish well and buying fish from a good course. Of course they think no problem. Let people die and just keep quiet. It cannot be allergy since a whole group got sick :( Immediate medical attention needed but somehow ambulance only arrived 40 minutes later. Bangkok hospital is just around the corner 5-10 minutes drive away.

Jomtien Palm Beach is a beautiful place to be. The water there can be a little chilly but I would say that it's not much more colder than your typical swimming pool. The beach is pretty expansive and always crowded so I suggest coming on a weekday. You can rent a chair for 40 baht per person per day which I actually recommend, it will make your experience more comfortable. There are plenty of places to eat some good food and there are always vendors selling food for you to have right on the beach itself. Plus there is a night market that opens after 5 o'clock which is great if you want to watch the sunset and have a refreshing drink or get a delicious meal.

Very good location, close to all shops needed, very close to the beach which is very busy. Have 2 big swimming pools, very good restaurant. Have two buildings; old which is closer to the beach but less rooms facing the sea, the new building have many rooms with sea view but little further. I got a room in the new section but seem that this building always booked for big groups which was very annoying in the lift and noises. The room was clean and spacious. Little bit noisy A/C but it covers other noises caused by those groups. Toilet with bath tub but the shower was not good. Staff are kind but need courses in other languages like English. Breakfast was limited for us but seem very good for the Chinese.

Beautiful beach with clean water. Quieter than Pattaya and only a 20 Baht Bus trip to get there.

Jomtein Palm Beach beautiful and famous for sugar babies. European and Russians spend their exotic winter vacation here. Also freedom to experience lot of things is the reason tourism is flourishing in thialand
