The Penang Botanic Gardens, (Malay: Taman Kebun Bunga;Tamil :பினாங்கு தாவரவியல் பூங்கா,Piṉāṅku Tāvaraviyal pūṅkā) also known as the "Waterfall Gardens" because of the cascading waterfall nearby, is a botanic garden situated on Jalan Air Terjun (Waterfall Road) in George Town, Penang, Malaysia.
The original gardens were established in 1884 from an old quarry site, under the supervision of Charles Curtis, who was the first superintendent, making it one of the oldest botanic gardens built by the British in a colonial settlement.
Very nice and green. So many old and beautiful trees. Lots of monkeys. A must go for those who lives nearby for fresh air and enjoy some greenery. Also good for tourists. Don't forget to have coconut water outside after a long walk or jog.

Botanical Garden walking tracks abound. I walk here several times a week and so do thousands of others, so it is a very busy place at sunrise and on weekends. Not the most sophisticated gardens you have seen but I always enjoy my walks here. You can easily spend a couple of hours walking around the different garden sections. Lots of monkeys at dawn and dusk. Car parking or No. 10 bus from town. Taxi, Uber etc is ideal. Close to Youth Park, another garden, recreation area, next to two Indian temples. Local and Western food and drinks available at hawker centre between both gardens. You can easily spend a morning in this area and more or less stay out of the heat of the day.

Many special gardens, including lotus, fern, bamboo, Japanese, orchids, herbal, lily, begonia, you name it. Pine, cactus. Easy walk up and down hill. Scooter bus ride available. Good for all people. Also, not many monkeys now, unlike 30 years ago when a whole hill of monkeys are scary.

Nice place to walk around, plenty of shade even on a hot day. Lots of wildlife, including kingfishers, monitor lizards and monkeys, as well as plants and trees from all over the world. You can also walk to the top of Penang hill from here, it's about a 5km hike, on roads and good paths so not that difficult although quite steep.
Lewy BFeb 24, 2018
Loved the walk around here. We saw some great wildlife- monkeys, lizards, butterflies, insects and birds. Lots to see and easy to get around. There should be more toilets and another shop for water though.

Big garden full of a variety of plants. Suitable for friends and family. You can do jogging, cycling, picnic here. Is it so big that it takes an hour or 2 to walk the whole garden. It is very educational too as the plants have a small plate with names and description

I hiked Penang Hill from the Botanical Gardens. I love this place, it is tranquil and clean. It is also free (although most attractions once you arrive at Penang Hill are not). Took a lot of great nature photos around this place.

Came here for a morning jog and loved it! There are different sections in the park depending on your preferred elevation. I have never breathed such fresh air since weeks! Highly recommend for exercise, even a relaxing stroll with your loved ones is enough to make you forget all your worries.

Really beautiful garden. Big and a nice place to jog or enjoy with your friends and family. There's also a small cafe at a walking distance outside the entrance of the park. Recommended for tourist to come here and enjoy the beautiful nature.

Penang Botanical Gardens is a beautiful and serene park where the monkeys roam free and there are lots of Flora and Fauna. There is a cool Waterfall and a Lily Pond to walk around. Also there are trails to hike up the surrounding hills

A very well maintained garden, lovely place to spend the the morning. They have a place hidden a bit out of sight which is just fabulous. Secret Garden, follow the signs

One of my favorite place in penang its close to the hill so it has nice view. You can find variety of trees and plants. Even people use it has jogging / walking track. Enjoy the calmness and have a pleasant trip.

This place is beautiful so many gorgeous plants and trees. It was such a calm and quiet place. The monkeys are so cheeky.

Great place with fresh air and free of charge, an ideal place to work out like a run, ideal comes around 4-5 pm because the sun will set so the air is not too hot. there are many rare plants and there are also monkeys that roam but many warnings to not feed the monkeys and do not disturb them. And from here for those who will travel to Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera) can through the gate next to the Botanical Garden, of course with the help of a local guide ... nice

One of the few places in Penang to enjoy the great out door with the whole family ,it's free ,just walk around the garden as there are many small route to take or even better ,put on your hiking shoe ,bring along a bottle of water ,if not ,one can get them at by the entrance of the garden where there is a shop that sell them or from the vending machine, once you have your drink ,you can explore around hike up the stairs or if advantageous enough ,can hike up to Penang hill using the tar road just next to the park

Nice relaxing and calming environment to walk or jog around. Can see monkeys around and many plants. Totally recommended it!

Poorly maintained. Don't go during the afternoon as you will probably get seriously sun burned from the scorching heat. Go during the morning and evening. Good trails for jogging or walking. Despite the poor maintenance, it is an amazing display of how nature always wins when it comes to the environment. A poorly maintained place is slowly converted back into being a part of the forest.

A perfect place if you want to get off the hustle- bustle in Georgetown and nearby. Spacious greenery, beautiful flowers, fresh air, cute monkeys. You'd find locals exercising here. Wear your sports gear if you want to blend in. Some gardens closed sometimes, check the schedule before visiting if you want to see the gardens. Perfect for morning or evening walk with family.

Good place to exercise. Don't use handrail for stretch. Some garden were empty or abandoned. Can use river, but swimming not recommended. Don't feed the monkeys, even tho they looked cute and tame, they may harm you to steal all your food. Then you can get rabies or fever. Thank you for reading.
Christine JessicaJul 12, 2018
Nice, quiet place. There is a shuttle bus which travels around the garden/park sanctuary, and you can stop off at points to see Lilly pad ponds and a small river. Watch out for the monkeys and don't bring many bags, the monkeys will grab your bags and belongings if left alone.

A great and scenic garden by the foothills. A relaxing place suitable for casual outdoor activities or for nature observation (trees, birds, insects, etc.). Has a souvenir shop, toilet and various pondok (huts). There are also paid rides around the garden. Can be accessed by bus route no.10.
Hendrix CheongJul 29, 2018
I went there for my medical school excursion. So I had the chance to view their malaria control mechanisms on top of the picturesque nature scenes surrounding the place, with the garden's employee bringing us around. But still, even without them, I'd rank this park quite up there. I'd say Penang Botanical Garden does justice to Penang, just like how Phoenix Park beautify Dublin, Ireland.
