The Pinang Peranakan Mansion (Malay: Rumah Agam Peranakan Pulau Pinang) in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is a museum dedicated to Penang's Peranakan heritage. The museum itself is housed within a distinctive green-hued mansion at Church Street, George Town, which once served as the residence and office of a 19th-century Chinese tycoon, Chung Keng Quee.
The mansion contains thousands of Peranakan artifacts, antiques and collectibles, as well as showcasing Peranakan interior design and customs, such as the typical grand long dining table (Malay: tok panjang). Due to its unique architecture and interior design that reflect the lifestyles of the Peranakans in Penang, the mansion has been featured in television series and reality TV shows, such as The Little Nyonya, The Amazing Race and The Amazing Race Asia.

The building itself was quite magnificent. The interior design upon entering had a very Roman architectural design which was accompanied with luscious Chinese styled furniture and wooden carvings. One could spend hours browsing the enormity of old heirlooms and jewelry on display. The tour within the mansion was quite educational and at the end we were brought to a little cafe which served bird’s nest desert for a very affordable price.

Took the free tour which was really good, it does cost to enter though. It honestly might even be worth doing the tour twice to experience the with different tour guides as they lead quite different style tours and focus on slightly different information from each other. All the heritage and riches were very interesting to see, there was definitely more to see than I expected. Also there is an antiques shop as the owner is always aquiring new antiques to replace the ones in the house with nicer ones, and sell off the others. About 20% of what is in the house is original, but the rest are genuine antiques from the era that would have been there, but have been bought from many families.

Very beautiful and glamorous (yet not tacky!) building showing insight into lives of Nyonya people in the old times. Would like a bit more description on the signs though and suspect many of the decorations were added in only during renovation and not part of the original design. Nevertheless, worth a visit

Worth a visit. The house itself is not as aesthetically pleasing as the blue mansion, but it's crammed (over)full with furniture and art, some of it worth seeing, and you can wander around freely, with small guided groups constantly making their way through the property too, so you can dip in and out of their spiel.

If you're looking to get an hour break from the sun, to deep dive a little into the Baba Nyonya culture, this would be ideal. There's alot to see for what you're paying for. But the history is limited, and our guide as good as he was, was rather boring for me. It wasn't particularly an interesting story. The founder/owner of this place is just a rich man who was entrepreneurial enough to be the middle person between the working class and the Brits. Nothing more.

This is absolutely worth the price of the ticket! We came here with no expectation, but we were left in awe of the preservation of the place and the items on display. We have never seen such comprehensive collections of items of the Peranakan culture. Recommended visit!

Enjoyed the tour so much. Fascinated by the exhibition. I could easily spend more than 2 hours in the house.

A-must-visit venue in Georgetown! Gorgeous! The architectural and interior detail is astonishing. Full of meticulously crafted furniture. The best place to study the life of rich-high-class Peranakan people. The employee of museum is friendly and helpful. The shop provides a variety of interesting souvenirs. It is community-based management also interesting.

A time capsule that contains what could have been the mansion in its glorious days. The awe-inspiring furniture, the paintings, precious antiques and beyond words of its magnificent architechtural interior that blends with the unknown histories to us and they are remaining quiet. BUT they have excellent tour guides and one of them is the witty yet wholly knowledgeable STANLEY. The tour imparted us the lifestyles of Peranakan families in the yesteryears and how we could understand and perceive them in a wider perspective. It lives up to its name as being one of the best museums in the world!

I had this on my places to visit, an old style mansion preserved and filled with antiques collected from that era. When I arrived I was told an optional tour is available to join in 20 minutes so I hung around and it was well worth the wait. It's ideal to have a guide explain the history and interesting facts of a place or monument you're visiting which adds to the experience and gives so much more meaning rather than walking around aimlessly snapping pictures, oblivious to what the place means. Our tour guide, Stanley, was fantastic! Very humorous, light hearted and yet informative, the 45-60 minute tour whizzed by in a jiffy and didn't drag on, wasn't boring, nor was it filled by a monotonous drone of historical facts. Stanely's style makes learning about the mansion so interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I went back to revisit each room and take photos, reflecting on what Stanley just imparted. Thanks so much Stanely for making this visit really fascinating.

Friend discovered his hidden peranakan heritage because of this so I guess the expensive entry fee of RM20 was worth it... 😅 The displays are well curated and great for photos. The tours are good and are available in both mandarin and English. It's a great place to visit especially if you are a history buff and have money to spare.

Amazing mansion with lots of historical items in pristine condition. Highly recommend taking one of the free tours. Our English guide, Stanley, was very knowledgeable about the original family and their customs and was a very fun, interactive guide. Thanks Stanley!

The guide whom brought the big group had a very interesting introduction into the Peranakan Culture. We were very enjoy the visit here as he really explained very in-depth and some funny facts. The artifacts was beautiful and this was the scene set of Singapore Channel 8 tv show Little Nonya. Worth the ticket price to visit.

If you are in Penang, this place is definitely worth a visit. A beautifully decorated historic mansion that is very well kept with an interesting story behind it. It is located in the heart of old town Penang where there are plenty of beautiful Chinese style and Colonial style buildings to see. Within walking distance from the museum, you can try a variety of local Chinese food on offer in neighborhood shops. Expect to spend an hour here on average.

I entered this magnificent place with a 20 Ringgit Entrance ticket. The most appealing part to me was the main part of the mansion with the bedrooms, living rooms, and etc. Where you could see intact historical artifacts properly arranged in the way they would have been seen back then. Clothing, beds, furniture, vases... Visiting this mansion at least once when you're in Penang is a must. There were at least 3 groups taking wedding photos in the mansion at the time I was there.

We really enjoyed our time here because it has wonderful exhibits and an interesting atmosphere. We especially liked all the interesting historical objects like cameras, jewelry, stories of wedding rituals, and the family temple. We went with an English speaking tour guide for free and would recommend it.

This mansion is so enchanting. This mansion is full of antiques and historical goods. Also, there are tour guides. This mansion belongs to a family, but the antiques and historical goods come from many other Peranakan families. You should follow the tour guides, they will tell you chinese culture and tradition back then. The story behind the interior design of the mansion and many others. Totally worth my 20RM.
