The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is a public art gallery that is part of the Perth Cultural Centre, in Perth. It is located near the Western Australian Museum and State Library of Western Australia and is supported and managed by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries of the Government of Western Australia. The current gallery main building opened in 1979. It is linked to the old court house – The Centenary Galleries.
The Art Gallery was originally housed in the Jubilee Building with the State Museum and Library. The Jubilee Building, which was intended to be a public library only, was to be opened in honour of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887, but instead, only the first stone for the foundation was laid. The foundation stone was laid for the Art Gallery in July 1901 by the Duke of Cornwall and York, shortly after the federation of Australia.

It's alright I guess. Some famous pieces in the permanent collection, and insightful painting and minor artifact in the classical section. It's decent by this town of just over a million I guess. They do host regular and sometime interesting exhibition. But hey don't take my word for it. Entry is by donation - which means you can give nil if you so please. Which makes, if you are visiting this most isolated town in the universe why not drop by and have a quick browse. You can cover the entire building in under 20 minutes.

Splendid gallery, good selection of local artists and content. Aboriginal art and colonial art. Modern stuff too. Excellent books in the shop. Very helpful volunteers and staff.

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is home to some of the Best Artworks on Display from around the World... The Art Gallery itself and surrounding areas have undergone extensive renovations over the past few years especially and still continue to display such a diverse range of Art.... The Staff are extremely knowledgeable and well trained in all types of Artwork... From paintings to 3D structures, there are so many amazing pieces of Art...!! The Art Gallery of WA is most definitely worth visiting whilst the holidays are still on.... At the moment they are still showing Heath Ledger's Life in Pictures Display... It is a great display and if you make your way down here, you will see just how talented this young West AustralIan man was...!! With a newly renovated and licensed restaurant/cafe just at the front of The Art Gallery, called 'FRANK' AGWA (Art Gallery of Western Australia) Don't take my word on it.... Come take a look..! A great day out for everyone....

The HEATH LEDGER exhibition beggars belief. Absolutely awesome. It should be mandatory viewing for actors everywhere. What an extraordinary human being. A humbling experience. Thank you to Heath and his family.

Such a great space that really showcases the many aspects of art. The Telstra Perth Fashion Festival was held here in 2016 where the sweeping staircase was used to full advantage to show the beautiful fashion art. They also showcased the recent Heath Ledger exhibition which my friends and I found mesmerising. Great shop with lots of high quality fab goodies to remind you of your visit. Recommended ❤

I always find something I am not expecting to like in here. There's a great ambience and the collections are usually very good. I really enjoyed the Dali, Van Gogh and Picasso collection they showed a few years ago. The aboriginal art is well represented and there are plenty of controversial pieces to make you think. Well worth a visit.

Always love going to our W.A. art gallery. Particularly loved the exhibition on the upper floor of Aboriginal Art and artifacts. The "jewellery " made from tiny bright coloured feathers..absolutely gorgeous..really worth going to see. Looking forward to checking out the Corsini collection this week!!

This is a gem of a place! Wonderful and helpful staff. One of the security people even offered to take my picture in front of an art piece! Always changing and mentally stimulating whilst still being peaceful.

My partner and I visited the Art Gallery to see the Corsini Collection. Well presented, informative and the entry fee included a rather nice, soft-cover book covering all the paintings and other artifacts on display. Staff were their usual friendly and polite selves and the bookshop was well stocked. However, the building itself is getting a little long in the tooth and I think it is high time that the WA government invests some funds in a renovation/refresh.

I really enjoyed our visit. Some very interesting contemporary art and I was very pleased to see some of the Colonial Australian works. And I had a great discussion with one of the staff members who pointed out some things I hadn't noticed in some of the paintings.

Free entry. Permanent displays are limited compared to other capital cities, but worth seeing. I especially like the indigenous art and this section would be good for overseas visitors. Fees charged for special exhibitions. Child friendly, often activities available.

We went to see the Corsini Collection and ended up looking at the other exhibitions. Perth is extremely lucky to have an Art Gallery that is freely available to all people. A great selection of art and visual histories.

One of my last visit while in Perth It was very lovely but my favorite section was by far the exhibition with all the young artist's of Perth. It was breathtaking to see so much talent in one room, very diverse but also empowered, political engaged It is nice to see that some kids in the next generations still care about important things like international relations and culture. I didn't have time to check out the Florence's exhibit which looked unreal

An amazing art galley with beautiful paintings sculptures and many more. There is a wide array of artists and paintings and the staff are verry nice and respectful. Also there is free entry so you can explore the art galley without paying a cent. Also there are sometimes some fun new exhibits to look at. I highly recommend this place for an artist, art lover, tourist and anyone interested in seeing an art gallery in the heart of Perth.

Very nice museum located in the heart of Perth. You can go there by train or by bus. There are several floors which exhibits different collection from historical, classic, contemporary to modern art. Entrance is free. Watch out for the early closing hour.
