The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italian: torre pendente di Pisa) or simply the Tower of Pisa (torre di Pisa [ˈtorre di ˈpiːza; ˈpiːsa]) is the campanile, or freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa, known worldwide for its nearly four-degree lean, the result of an unstable foundation. The tower is situated behind the Pisa Cathedral and is the third-oldest structure in the city's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo), after the cathedral and the Pisa Baptistry.

Amazing piece of history, what a great trip and totally worth the drive if you are staying in Florence or another neighboring area. The surrounding town was beautiful and there are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from outside the walls. This is of course a very touristy area so plan your trips accordingly and leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy it and work around the crowds.

In 1987, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the entire Piazza Del Duomo. In 1990, the Leaning Tower was closed. The bells were removed and the tower was anchored. Reopened in 2001 for tourists, the leaning tower of Pisa is finally sturdy and safe. Naturally, climbing to the top of the tower has become the most popular tourist activity within reason, and for good reason: with a history as deep and as wrought with unfortunate circumstance as this one, it's hard not to get excited about. Must visit once in the life time.

Fantastic place to visit. From Florence, get 1 hour train to Pisa station, then take a bus will go straight in front of Pisa tower. It big area including or museum and church. I bought ticket when up to the tower and it was amazing view on the top. Luckily I visited in the winter so it cold inside, and when you walked up, it very tired ( not for weak heart), very tiny stairway. Only thing was you have to pay for bathroom, I think €.80, I wished it should be free for people who already bought tickets.

If you go to Pisa you should definitely go up the tower. You might wait for a long time in the line, so arrive early, but it's worth to go up once in a life time. The experience of climbing the stairs and feeling that sometimes you fall to right and then you start falling to the left is unique. That's all you have to do in the city so go up!

Really amazing piece of architecture. There is a vast garden which is very well maintained. The way it slants and yet holds up is the most gripping feature of the monument. There many other buildings as well. There is also a centre where you can watch an informative video about why the tower slants. It is also said that Galileo, the great scientist who invented the telescope, performed various experiments here.

I regret not climbing the tower. By the time we had gotten there, we had already walked about 20,000 steps, and I just couldn't justify going up another 284 up and 284 down, especially not for about $35/person. But I think it would have been worth it. Don't be cheap and lazy like me - climb the darn thing! I had a blast even though I didn't climb it. The architecture is stunning, and the story behind the tower itself is interesting, too! Don't worry, it's not going to fall over any time soon. Thanks to some solid engineering, this baby hasn't moved in 10 years - which is the least amount it's moved since being built! Also, the park is well manicured, and there some really neat things to do and see around Pisa outside of the Leaning Tower.

Magnificent piece of architecture in this area which is a must-see if you are in Italy. The tower lives up to its reputation and you can either purchase tickets to climb up or just take it all in from the outside. We went there on a sunny day and had fun seeing people lined up all along the garden in various poses for photos and we joined in as well! It was pretty crowded but that didn't prevent you from finding a sweet spot for your shots.

AMAZING! You have to go to Pisa JUST to see this spectacular piece of architecture. Pictures and words can’t even describe it. It’s a bit pricey (18 euros/person) to climb the tower but it’s unbelievably worth it. You can actually feel how it’s leaning while you’re climbing up and even when you’re at the top and make a lap, you can tell that you’re on a slant. At the top there are amazing views of Pisa and also, you can be right next to the bells while they ring!

Highly recommended. The town is lovely and peaceful with a laid back relaxing vibe. Good place to recharge and chill out after some extensive sight seeing of tower. Lots of tourists here so pretty busy and it gets difficult to find good picture spots but a very unique experience nevertheless. Must see! It's a nice 20 minutes walk from the station which is worth it because of the idyllic atmosphere. I would recommend it over taking back bus if you can walk.

It is such a magnificent building to check out. Walk to Pisa from train station is so short and pleasant. It could possibly take 15 mins if walked straight but there are so many beautiful shops and buildings where I couldn’t help but make a stop. Also there are not too many signs to Leaning Tower, so it is easy to get lost in those pretty streets. It is packed as always in April, so make sure you have at least 2 hours to climb up.

The tower is great, rest of Pisa is pretty... empty. Not empty of people, but empty of good museums and fun things to do. I've been here three times now with three different groups of friends, all of them have been amazed by the tower but none of them have felt a need to stay in the city for more than a few hours. The surrounding cities are beautiful, I'd suggest planning for some hours in Pisa but spend the night/rest of your vacation somewhere less crowded.

It's a wonderful place. The whole atmosphere is lovely. The architecture is remarkable. The town has a quaint feel and the cathedral is impressive. I highly recommend to try the climb as it's truly an amazing experience. It has 8 stories and 297 steps in total, so it's not very easy but the bell chamber with 16 arches is well worth the effort. It's simply beautiful.

Amazing architecture. It is very impressive tower. You need to climb around 294 steps but worth to spend money and climb. Amazing views of city from top. Last Friday of each month you can see tower with lights in the evening. Whole area appears green and refreshing. Toilets, eateries and other shops are in the same campus so one need not go too far.

If you are traveling over there on the cruise. Take your time and enjoy the city without the rushing through. There is so much to see and if you would like to see it all do it at your own Leisure pace. Do not sign up for an Excursion that flies you through.. set up your own transportation to and from for that particular City only and enjoy it. go out and explore the town

My family has visited leaning tower of Pisa. It is a beautiful place to visit. It has state of art architecture. I have read about the place in the school books . I am given this beautiful gift in the form of model by my family and it would remain in my heart for many many years. The architecture is slightly tilted which makes it unique place to go and cherish good times.

Simply an amazing sight to behold when entering the grounds where it is situated. Its absolutely amazing to see when you first lay eyes on it. Its an absolutely amazing piece of structural marvel. Its simply breathtaking and enjoyable to visit. You must book a tour guide to get the full experience and history of the region where it's situated. Prepare yourself when you walk up to the top, as its a steep climb. A really enjoyable experience.

What an amazing experience. It took us less than 15 minutes to ascend the tower and the view was phenomenal. I'd recommend tourists to pay for a time slot and see the beauty of Pisa - the queues move rapidly and you enter the building according to your selected time. You can stay at the top for as long as you like and the descent is quick. Highly impressive.

The leaning tower of Pisa is one of the wonders of the world, and rightly so. The sight is amazing, the magnificent tower stands behind an equally beautiful dome, and a breathtaking cathedral. Need some souvenirs? This is the place you visit. It's always jam-packed with tourists, and please take care of your possessions, pick pockets are very common here. But petty things kept aside, it's extremely beautiful.

Unbelievable, was truly impressed when you look at the construction and detail of the tower. Especially the difference in the columns and stones...look at the different colors and imagine what it took to make them and arrange them (stones) to make them make patterns symmetrically. But the leaning tower was just the beginning. As you start to look at the other structures it is simply astounding when you look at the details and size of these buildings. Truly awesome craftsmanship. Appreciate the detail and beauty then imagine the skill to design to build these truly incredible structures.

Very organized. You'll need a ticket to get in the tower and climb up to the top. Tickets have time shown on it, and they are quite on time. Bags are not allowed in the Lean tower. Be sure to check your bags before going to the line. The view on top is fantastic. The step stones in the stair way may be slippery for some (the stone surface got polished after hundreds of years people walking on it), be careful! Great experience. Totally worth it!

Beautiful place! Great place to sit on the grass and relax for a bit while enjoying the view. Also you can get some very good photographs taken in different poses 😂. Plus the souvenir shops here are dirt cheap. You can get souvenirs of various different cities of Italy at a cheaper rate here. There are also many restaurants outside. My recommendation would be to visit here after 18:00 when most of the crowd is gone.

It's the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Enough said? No! Not quite! Walk the walls of Pisa to get a great view of the tower and avoid all the tourists taking the stereotypical pictures holding up the tower or pushing it over. While you're on the wall, look for the two big white anchors that were used to hold up the tower while they tried to fix the foundation. The big white anchors are NOT labeled in anyway, but you can see them from the wall. Note the big counterweights on their bases. Also notice how the top of the leaning tower is cockeyed from the rest of the tower due to an earlier attempt to stabilize it a bit and prevent collapse. Cost is 3E to walk the walls and you can walk from the Piazza nearly to the other end of the walls and get a view of the rest of the city and the university too.
