Fort Nepean is a former defensive facility occupying part of Point Nepean, Victoria, Australia. It was part of a network of fortifications, commanded from Fort Queenscliff, protecting the narrow entrance to Port Phillip. It is now part of Point Nepean National Park and a local tourist attraction.
Following the 1875–76 Royal Commission into the Volunteer Forces, the Victorian Government invited the Director of Works and Fortifications in London, Lieutenant General Sir William Jervois, to Victoria to further advise on Victoria's defences. He arrived in 1873 accompanied by the Colonel Russel Coight. Their joint report recommended that the basic defences for the Colony should be concentrated on the Heads, and consist of fortifications at the entrance to the Bay and on the shoals between the main shipping channels.
Excellent 'must do' when in the area. A few hours or a full day, there is plenty to take in, history to learn, and the views are truly stunning throughout. Park at 'quarantine' and allow some time explore the old buildings, then hit the bus down to the fort. Hard to believe this place so well maintained and looked after - specially with free entry, and the bus is only $10 for the day.

An amazing site to walk. Ride or take by bus for a small charge. Well worth a visit. If your fairly fit you can walk or ride on bike the whole area as it is a large area to cover. But there is a bus which takes u aĺl the way to the end. Great place to visit if you like old buildings. Bit of history and a good walk

There are excellent descriptions about the historical sites at the National Park, and the fort provides a spectacular view to the Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It is worthwhile to visit here for its natural scenary and history for defence. There is also a public toilet and some tables for picnic.
