This is an unusual destination for most tourists but I highly recommend that you consider it in your Bangkok trip itinerary. This 5,000 square-foot home is both beautiful and historic. It is actually a group of several homes that were moved to the side and Linc together. The homes I made a beautiful wood and have breathtaking views of a garden. The house/museum is full of remarkable art and history. It chronicles the remarkable life of Jim Thompson who was an American who immigrated to Thailand to start a famed silk company. Sadly, after living in the home for just a couple of years, he vanished mysteriously in Malaysia, never to be found. There’s a wonderful gift shop and restaurant that serves delicious food. This destination is a perfect place for a short, cultural visit for individuals that are interested in art and history.

It seemed like a cheap tourist trap when I read about it, but we were in the area and decided to go anyway. So glad that we did!!! Such a beautiful oasis in the heart of downtown. The tour is unique, interesting, and very informative. The architecture and Thai artwork is exquisite and we learned a lot about Thai culture just from the 45 minute tour. This place is in all the guidebooks for a very good reason.

Classic Thai house This would show you the classic Thai wooden house. Very beautiful. They have their own guides for several languages such as English, French, etc. The tour took about an hour. The cuisine there was interesting too. Nice Thai food. The souvernir shop was plenty of nice stuff but quite expensive. Anyway, the beauty of their silk clothes was worth

A well organised and maintained museum/attraction. A good place to visit if you are interested in the silk industry or the design of the house itself. You cannot go in alone and you must pay to be in a tour group. The tour guides speak a variety of languages too. It wasn't a bad experience. Just not suited to my interests.

Good place for visiting. Nice atmosphere. Can get some knowledge about local silk industry in Thailand and the pioneer in industry. Can access by canal boat service too. They give guided tours for your entrance ticket and guidance is pretty good.

quite simply one of my favorite experience in Bangkok as there are a lot of history behind Jim Thompson's house. The 30 minute tour is well worth it to learn about what makes this museum so unique and all the thoughts Jim had put into its design. You can spend a whole morning admiring its architecture and the amazing tropic garden surrounding the property. Even though it is a private museum, you are most certainly encouraged to spend more time walking around the premise. It's really an amazing paradise in the middle of the concrete jungle.

A great oasis from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The 150b entrance fee will get you in a fairly relaxed 30 minute tour of the house, after which you are free to wonder the gardens and take a look at the art collections. There is also a good restaurant. I would describe it as a relaxing couple of hours diversion, rather than a day out. From the Khao San Road area you can take the #15 bus there and back for about 20b, the bus ride is as interesting as visiting the house and will help give you a sense of the layout of the city. The bus conductor will tell you which stop to get off.

Very good visit! It is presenting you the house of an American who build an authentic Thailand house. The visit comes with a good price and an excellent tour guide. You can choose to have a french or English or Korean or Chinese tour guide. I highly recommend you to stop by this place!

You certainly get a lot for your money. Great tour. The guide spoke good English & the staff were very friendly. For other members of staff, i recommend speaking in slow, simple English :) the house's history was fascinating & the architecture superb. I was sad not to be able to take photos inside, but there are paintings and statues up to 1200 years old on display without glass display cases so I can understand the reasons why you can't. Be prepared to take your shoes off to go in the main house!

Beautiful place and exceptional staff. This place is stunning and you feel like you've been transported somewhere else whilst In the centre of busy Bangkok. The history, story and mystery surrounding the buildings and there former owner is fascinating. The old antiques and interiors are beautiful and not to mention the outside space. Would highly recommend it 😁

I debated whether I should visit as it seemed super touristy, but it was actually pretty enjoyable and reasonably priced (RM 150). The architecture of the building was really cool to see and "mandatory" tour was also interesting. I believe you can choose between English, French, Chinese, and Thai language tours. I wished they spoke more about the life and disappearance of JT (mystery! intrigue!), but you mostly just get to learn about his Asian (design) fetish. They also intermittently have ladies doing mini traditional Thai dance performances outside as well as someone demonstrating silk processing/spinning by the gift shop (no explanation or interaction and you're not supposed to touch the silk threads but people kept stopping her and touching them anyways and she obliged...). Bonus--they have a nice bathroom with free toilet paper.

Architectural treat for nature lovers and lovers of fine wooden Architecture! It is wonderful to see wood work of such high quality, the architecture is tasteful and the canal visible on the back side is beautiful to watch. With the choicest of porcelain and artwork. Jim Thompson's house is filled with beautifully carved antique wooden sculptures. The mini ponds with fish swimming is a relaxing place. It also has a beautiful cafe which serves exoyic drink. Do try the butterfly pea drink. You can ask as it is a purple drink specifically made there.

I actually was here for a friend's wedding. I have to say the environment and the building is beautiful. They have a nice lounge area on the second floor of the restaurant and it's just so relaxing to just sit there and have a drink. I wouldn't say there are a lot of things to do here, but it's a place to soak in the environment. I think they did a good job keeping the look of this place. Oh yeah and the food in the restaurant is good, I liked it a lot. But then again I'm a sucker for Thai food.

So you got to go on this guided tour that walked you through the history of the house and of the creator. The house is so very gorgeous and while I understand why you couldn't take pictures inside, it made me a little sad that I wouldn't be able to remember it as well. But the story of the creator and how this whole house came to be was so worth it. It's hidden down a long ally way so you gotta be on the look out for the signs. You can get to it from the sky train too which is great!

A nice place for an hour or two. It's really like an oasis in the heart of Bangkok and you get to learn about the mystery surrounding the man who reinvented the Thai silk. The admission fee is same for Thais and foreigners (which is not the standard in Thailand... Just look at the royal palace that charge 500 for foreigners but is free for Thais!), however, the prices in the restaurant are quite high and the prices you can also see on any of the silk products for sale (to compare the price... I bought a silk shirt at a royal project in Chang Mai for 3,000 Baht, at Jim Thompson House the price for just a silk necktie was 3,600 Baht!).

The Jim Thompson house is a former residence of a US Army veteran built in 1959. It's a beautiful Thai-style home that contains a large personal collection of art from Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and China (Ming dynasty China, anyone?). The admission and tour costs 150 baht, and the service is outstanding, offering multiple languages. Note that no shoes are allowed inside during your 35-minute guided tour (no touching the objects!) of the house, but they are allowed around the premises and its gardens. The guided tour itself was informative and memorable, as you learn about the quirks of different objects, little facts about Thai traditions and culture, and the lifestyle choices that Mr. Thompson chooses.

This is the old house of the American business man Jim Thompson - you pay your 200b (100b if under age of 22) per person, and with this you get a half hour guided tour of the house, and are then left to look around the grounds alone. Staff are kind, friendly and helpful, well trained. The house it’s self is cool to see, rich business man living in a Thai house with a western twist. Worth a visit, the place is kept well, and they say money from the ticket goes to charity.

I was quite sceptical about visiting a house and paying for the privilege. Turned out to be one of the best experiences in Bangkok. Beautiful architecture, peaceful surroundings and interesting history. You get a guided tour around the house. The guides all speak really fluent English and as far as I saw you can also get a tour in some other languages. Definitely worth a visit. There is also a restaurant/bar on site which looked amazing, but was a bit out of our backpacker price range.

Very interesting tour through a van that many of us probably didn’t know much about before coming to Thailand. There are many interesting artifacts in this house that should bring interest to both the art aficionado and those interested in Southeast Asian history. Also they have tours in five different languages-Chinese, Japanese, French, English and Thai which helps most tourists have the ability to experience this attraction. Only 200 baht this attraction is worth the time and money while you come to Bangkok.

A cool museum to visit along one of the canals, especially if you want to escape the busy streets for an hour or two. They tour you around the gardens and the main house, where you'll find some very clever details and quirky artifacts! The house itself has unique architectural features that offer a glimpse into Jim Thompson's personality. This is a great place for curious people with an hour or two to spare :)

Nice little oasis in the middle of Bangkok. This house was the house of Jim Thompson, an American who brought back the Silk business to Thailand. He was also a collector of Asian art, including Chinese porcelain, Buddha statues and more. The houses are beautiful. The site also has a Jim Thompson Silk shop and a small restaurant with delicious cakes. The price is very reasonable at 200 Baht per person for a guided tour.
