A small but lovely aquarium. We spent a few hours here, there were lots of signs with plenty of information and we stayed for a seahorse talk, the member of staff doing it was excellent and really knowledgeable. We spent a couple of hours here, but didn't read everything and only went to one talk. Not the greatest variety of species, most are native to the Solent.
Enjoyable day out. Very pleased to find clean conditions and happy animals. Wide variety of aquatic creatures to see: fish of all types and sizes, shrimp, turtles, frogs, otters, urchins, iguanas, etc. There are shows and feedings throughout the day. Large park on site with picnic area so you can pit stop. Gift shop has a variety of products. Ticket valid for whole day so you can leave and return. Lots of parking nearby although this is busy in school holidays, etc. Suitable for young children.
Variety of fishes are available but it is not a place with value for money. There are few other better sealife aquariums in South England. Present at a great location in Portsmouth.
Loved this place really interesting. Bargain priced. Great location easy parking. Highly recommend you to visit. Even thou otter sank horrid.
Staff really friendly and helpful. Aquarium is small and basic. Really could do with some investment. I took my one year old and she loved it perfect size for small children as not too long to keep attention. Lots of oos. Nice space out the back on fair weather days for play and paddle in the water fountain.
Had a family entry voucher, kids enjoyed seeing the creatures and heard an Otter talk and saw them being fed. Had a small outdoor play area, adequate but could do with more things. Nice splash water feature. Only really took an hour, not a large centre but for children, it's fascinating. it's well maintained and staff are helpful and friendly.
My Son was brought the fish keeper for the day for his Christmas present. He absolutely loves anything to do with the sea, sharks, and marine life in general . He has had the best day . The staff were amazing. He spent the day with Ali who is so knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to answer all his questions. I recommend this experience 100% my son has asked to do it again for his birthday. Brilliant day for kids that are passionate about animals and sea life. 🐳🐋🐬🐚🐙🦀
It's a little small and tired looking for the price, however the little ones still love it, the stingrays still come and flap up by the side of the tank and the outdoor area still works brilliantly in warm-ish weather. If you're local or plan on several repeat visits then the yearly passes are well worth it, especially over the summer months...
Blue Reef is a little over priced for what it is. It could do with some love and bringing into the 21st century, with more focus on conservation. Saying that the staff are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, I think it's management higher up the tree who need to have an overall review of the site.
Been a season ticket holder and we have visited many times this year. The fish are incredible and the staff are very knowledgeable. Each time I visit I notice something new, it's got us talking about the sealife around us. I also joined a sea focused charity due to a stall here. The outdoor space is also a fantastic space to run around to focus agina on the tanks indoors.
Interesting and informative. My grandson and I enjoyed watching the otters feed. Only criticism, it could do with a bit more lighting on the information boards, although I do appreciate that there's a balance that needs to be kept for the fish.
Great location in all weather - during the summer they have a great play area looking out over the water, during the winter they are battered with waves. Either way it looks epic. Staff are polite friendly and really want you to have a good time. This is not a big centre though so it's best to treat is one element of a day not the entire event.
Visited Saturday 10 March. Not been for 5 or 6 years and I can tell you this aquarium has gone downhill. Tanks looks dirty, water levels were low, algae growth was not dealt with. Lots of fish looking lethargic. The lighting was terrible throughout especially the tunnel area. The place was quite empty hardly saw a member of staff and the ones I did looked young and inexperienced. The part that used to house the carp had changed to an Amazon looking area which admittedly looked good but it absolutely stank due to the otters nearby and the collection of fish in this area except the big gourami were very underwhelming and just tropical fish you'd find in any home tank. The big carp were a fantastic addition, very poor idea getting rid of them. As mentioned the otter area absolutely stank and just looked grubby and neglected. In summary this aquarium was decent. Short but decent now it's a few years old it is dated and dirty. Won't be returning.
A real gem on Southsea front. Fascinating displays of fish from near and far. Friendly and helpful staff. Well worth a proper visit. I have been a number of times and always enjoy it.
Great place to visit with family, cheap and cheerful. Amazing range of fish and sea life to see. Spend as long as you like admiring each species.
Nice day out. The man on the reception desk waa wonderfully helpful and friendly, sadly didn't catch his name. The animals all seem happy and well cared for with great enclosures. Seeing the otters being fed was a highlight. I highly recommend as a day out!
So on arriving it was blowing a game out side and I found I had no change for the parking meeter outside so went into the kiosk and the gentleman behind the counter couldn't get any change out of the til but went out of his way to find the manager who had no issue with opening the til to get me some change so a good start although parking is very expensive along the front there and think they should do free parking with your ticket. any way the ticket price I think is fair for the size of the venue we did rush through and it took us about 45 minutes to get round the whole thing id say if you have two or three kids interested in fish you could spend just over an hour to get round there is various activitys to do on the way round and keeper talks at certain times so if you plan your visit around these you could make it last a morning but at a very long stretch. overall I liked it and probably would go back but try and plan something to do in the area to make a day of it
Was lovely and quiet when we went on a Wednesday afternoon. We had the place to ourselves almost. Which was nice in one respect bit means we made it round in about an hour. For us it's a 90 minute drive so wouldn't recommend for a full day entertainment but if I lived in the area I would be tempted by an annual pass. Cafe next door for lunch or ice cream too.
