The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert (Czech: metropolitnĂ katedrĂĄla svatĂ©ho VĂta, VĂĄclava a VojtÄcha) is a Roman Catholic metropolitan cathedral in Prague, the seat of the Archbishop of Prague. Until 1997, the cathedral was dedicated only to Saint Vitus, and is still commonly named only as St. Vitus Cathedral (Czech: katedrĂĄla svatĂ©ho VĂta).
This cathedral is a prominent example of Gothic architecture, and is the largest and most important church in the country. Located within Prague Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors, the cathedral is under the ownership of the Czech government as part of the Prague Castle complex. Cathedral dimensions are 124Â m ĂÂ 60Â m (407Â ft ĂÂ 197Â ft), the main tower is 102.8Â m (337Â ft) high, front towers 82Â m (269Â ft), arch height 33.2Â m (109Â ft).
One of the most beautiful cathedrals in all of Europe. A must-see upon any visit to the country. Be prepared to have your bags searched as you are entering the grounds but itâs a quick and painless process. There is no cost to enter the building, youâll get the chance to see the beautiful stain glass windows and walk inside the front half of the building. If you want to walk all the way to the front of the cathedral and see some of the ornate work up close you will have to pay for the tour. Take time to take pictures outside the building and obviously inside but the crowds will make it hard to get a good shot once youâre inside. If you enter through the side door of cathedral over by the mosaic on the side of the building you can pay a small fee to hike the tower. I think it was between $5-7 a person. It is a lot of steps up so make sure youâre up for the hike, but the top provides an amazing 360 degree view of the river and the city as well as an inside view of some of the bells and structure through some small glass windows in the tower. Itâs a good stop near the beginning of the trip as a way to see attractions youâre interested in seeing from the view at the top and also to give you a feel of what the city looks like as a whole. As you can imagine it gets crazy busy even on weekdays and usually in the morning. Plan to be there right when it opens if youâre not into crowds and afterwards take time to walk all the way down to the bridge so you get a chance to see a lot of the main touristy streets.

A lot of people have called this one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe, and they are right! The architecture is stunning, both from a distance and close up. The interior is amazing and the beauty of the stained glass windows needs to be seen. Climbing to the top of the tower is worth the effort of you can manage it and are not affected by heights. It is the best view across Prague. You can get an audio tour for a small charge and it is worth it as it would be so easy to miss some of the important historical aspects.

Beautiful cathedral. Anyone there must visit it and go inside. The entrance is free of charge! The queue sometimes gets long, though, so make sure to have that in mind. There's a big plateau all around, so you can chill and enjoy the beautiful architecture of the building.

One of the most fascinating and beautiful gothic cathedrals I have ever seen. You have to hike up there and stand in front of this breathtaking building. As a reward you also get a wonderful view over the city. However, due to its popularity you have to expect loads of tourist groups.

St. Vitus Cathedral, inside the Castle complex, took my breath away. We approached it through an interior castle courtyard, and I was not expecting it. The enormous structure just overwhelms and impresses. We accessed the free locations and were again mesmerized by the stained glass. I must say it is the most beautiful I've ever seen. Because of that, we came back another day and bought a ticket that gave us access to more parts of the cathedral.

Go early! It's best to arrive early so you can get through the security check point. Then walk through to the cathedral before it opens at 9am. As soon as you come through the archway grab a photo. The church is mammoth and hard to fit in the camera frame so you need to do it before there are too many people around. As soon as you come through the tunnel go to the right and into the less crowded ticket office to get your entrance ticket. Then back out to the left to get in line on the left side of the cathedral. If there is a line it is worth the wait. I'd do at least an audio tour/book tour. Beautiful interior and it's good to know what you are looking at and why it is catching your attention.

Outside black and inside the pure light...You do not have to pay to come in,but if you want to make an inner long walk around the whole place, you have to buy the ticket. For me it was breathtaking to observe the precious pieces of art on any corner of this cathedral. Also outside you can see well-known gargulias, which according to the legend protect the Cathedral from evil power.

Incredible Cathedral! Awe-inspiring stain-glass windows inundated with color, storytelling, and vibrance. Iâve visited cathedrals throughout Europe and this one is hands down the most well kept and pristine. High arches, beautiful façades, and serene ambiance. Obviously crowded, but hardly takes from the beauty. I do wish you didnât need to pay extra to go further in, but if itâs what it takes to keep the place pristine, totally worth it. Awesome visit. Around the exterior had magnificent red-roofed views, and well maintained gardens. Loved it.

An amazing piece of art from top to bottom. Every single detail is unique an beautiful. If you get the audio guide you will have a very enjoyable time learning of the beginnings of the contraction. Demolitions needed, number of toms within the church, name of the patrons of the czk people, etc. A must see if you go to Prague. This is by far the main attraction of beautiful Prague.

The most important cathedral in the Czech Republic. And equally the most stunning the most breathtaking and the most beautiful! A must see place for all Gothic lovers. You will just stand there in a complete awe. I go there often and I always look up and admire the absolute masterpiece. If you go to Prague you must visit the Prague Castle and you'll see the St Vitus Cathedral, too, it's a part of the castle complex. Buy and send your postcards at the post office đŻ right next to the Cathedral, they are much cheaper there than in any shops!

You can stand in the back for free. That's the part that's owned by the Catholic church. If you want to go inside you'll have to pay a fee. It's worth seeing. I didn't spring for the extra ticket to see the treasury. A very large and beautiful class Gothic church. It's funny to see At Deco windows in a Gothic Cathedral. Don't miss the one by Alfonse Mucha; it's gorgeous. Many famous burials there. It's best if you have someone explain or get an audio guide because nothing is documented.

What a magical place! You can enter the cathedral without paying but if you want to truly make the most out of the spectacular stain glass windows and glorious epitaphs then it's 250 crowns. Would highly recommend going up to the top of the tower, however this is another 150 crowns and it's a very long, steep spiral staircase, the view from the top is quite simple breathtaking!

Rain did not dampen the majestic Gothic Architecture in all it's splendour. The architect inside also is mesmerizing and history speaks volumes. Just to soak in the atmosphere stand a minute or two in silence. A well versed guide can really help you to understand the reign then. To go further inside you will have to buy tickets.
