An excellent National Trust controlled building. Set in superb grounds with a large car park. A land train available to take you from car park to House. House in excellent condition. It is well maintained. Volunteers in each room to explain contents is you. The house is kept with limited light to protect the contents. This is understandable but can cause difficulties in viewing.

Historic house in a fine parkland setting. Access is via a courtyard leading on to a winding path through a copse, the house revealed once you come back out into the open. Guided tours around the house. Parts of the garden currently undergoing major construction work while a new heat exchange pump is being installed.

Lovely place for a day out, great places to walk. The house is very interesting and as always the restaurant provides simple food at reasonable prices. Gets busy very quickly though as parking is limited as is restaurant seating.

Not an NT member so the prices are fairly steep, no student options and no ground only options- especially expensive considering the garden is being torn up for the new heat pump (great for sustainability though!). Plenty of woodlands and fields to wander around- would benefit from some signposting. For the less mobile they give you a ride to the house. House itself is either entrance for timed tours or free-for all later in the day. Tours was informative and the volunteers knew their stuff. Free for all you're a bit lost unless the room volunteers are free. House looks nice decorated up for Xmas. Cafe gets busy and is typical NT prices- expensive! A themed cafe would be fitting for the site.

Nice grounds and house, suspect that were I not a National Trust member, I'd be a bit annoyed at the steep entrance fee. Note that many of the walks aren't paved nor have gravel, was quite muddy when I went. Parking is fairly restricted, we had to queue to get in even though the grounds didn't seem to be that busy.

Love National Trust! Children took part in Easter egg hunt which is something we do every year. Second time at Basildon Park. We know they are easy but would have liked more of a 'hunt'. All clues stuck in one field were easy to see with people following each other like sheep. Last time we went they were hidden in the gardens amongst the trees so children had to actually look for them. Also worth mentioning that while it was nice to see a return to an egg this year ( Last year it was a chocolate bunny) it was a bit worrying to see they were all packaged in card boxes this time as well as the foil. Could do away with this extra packaging I think. Aside from that a fabulous visit. The guides/ volunteers at the entrance and in the house can't be praised enough. So friendly and informative. The lady in the old kitchen making biscuits and cakes to feed the masses was a trooper and a real star. We loved her....and of course the cakes.

Lovely house and great garden with woods. Reasonable food in the cafe. We had a lovely interesting day. Make sure you see the shell room, the fantastic wood inlay furniture in one of the drawing rooms and the spiral staircase that runs all the way up the house.

Lovely place for walks and picnics. Lovely scenery. Cafe good for hot and cold foods and drinks. I haven't been in the house as not my cup of tea. Have visited lots of times.

Fantastic house and gardens. Very interesting tour. Guides both friendly and knowledgeable. Will visit again when the weather is drier so we can discover the grounds more.

National Trust sites are always worth a visit and this one has a great building with friendly staff willing to talk with you in detail about the history of the rooms. You'll get a nice cream tea and a snack for the kids as well as plenty of space to walk around and get some fresh air in your lungs too. Never a day wasted at a National Trust site.

Great place for a walk. Various lengths of walk available. Lots of things for children to do near the car park and out on some of the walks. Good cafe in a nice spot beside the house. National trust shop and plant sales offer interesting items of a varied nature.

Lots of fun to be had doing the national trust thing. This park features a lovely set of walks round the grounds, all woodlands trails and bluebells. Our kids loved it, as did we. The main building has a lot to see, with the obligatory lunch (better than many NT ones to be fair). The best bit was the really warm greetings and support of the staff. Well worth a visit.

Lovely afternoon. Interesting property, well-briefed volunteers. Busy bank holiday but didn't feel overcrowded. Children liked the questionnaires to follow around the house & exploring the 1950s kitchen.

This is the first time I have visited Basildon Park. Beautiful setting and guides extremely knowledgeable and attentive to visitors. Coffee shop quaint with nice food although outside wooden chairs uncomfortable. Can recommend.

House is beautiful, homely, comfortable. Room guides friendly, knowledgeable, approached with sensitivity, supplying interesting facts. Lots of walks in parkland but not much garden. Tea rooms were clean, attractive and accessible with a pushchair. Toilets were also clean, accessible with a baby changing room.

My 3 stars is a reflection of the place compared to other Nat Trust estates we have been too. It's nice and the house is interesting but the grounds are basic and little garden to explore. No child's playground although some logs in the woods to clamber over.
