The National Automobile Museum is a museum in Reno, Nevada. Most of the vehicles displayed are from the collection of William F. Harrah. The museum opened on November 5, 1989.
William F. Harrah collected approximately 1,450 automobiles, which he stored inside warehouses in Sparks, Nevada. It was the world's largest collection of historic automobiles, and was open to the public. When Harrah died in 1978, Holiday Inn acquired his hotel-casino company and the automobile collection. In 1981, Holiday Inn announced that it would sell the entire collection, a decision that received some opposition. Nevada governor Robert List attempted to delay the sale while working on a plan to have the state enact legislation that would save the collection. Businessman Thomas Perkins led a group that was interested in purchasing the collection. Both efforts to save the collection failed. However, a nonprofit organization was formed that ultimately built the museum. Holiday Inn donated 175 of Harrah's automobiles to the group and sold the rest of the collection through three auctions in the mid-1980s. Private owners donated another 60 vehicles. The museum opened on November 5, 1989 in downtown Reno, Nevada.
Wow. What a great find. This facility has an incredible assortment of cars. We spent about two hours here enjoying all the displays and reading all the information explaining each vehicle. They have several very rare automobiles that make it worth the stop. Students were free and adult pricing was very reasonable.

Wonderful customer service, even helping out with calling a taxi for me. Went out of their way to help with size difference between countries when purchasing a t-shirt as a gift. The cars are awesome and spent a couple of hours just amazed at how much things have changed. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

The remnants of the great Harrah's Automobile Museum. It still remains a great walk through primarily American automobile history. They have done a good job with the exhibits. The location is perfect, on the river close to downtown. For the automobile fan, well with the trip. But where's my 1962 Chevy Impala twi door sports coup? My first, ahem, ride.

A truly fantastic collection of classic vehicles. Catalogues the history of cars from the early days through about the 1970s. 4 very large galleries, mostly focused on vintage, unique, and rare vehicles. The crown jewel of the collection in my opinion would be the Mercedes 500K or the Bugatti. Absolutely worth a trip if you're into cars!

The family really enjoyed our visit. I've wanted to see this collection for years and I was happy my kids, ages 8, 12 and 14 really got into the old cars too. Admission Price was reasonable.

Well designed displays and fantastic cars! Everything on display had a placard, but the tour was also awesome. Volunteers are very kind and knowledgeable and the while building is great to explore! I didn't expect to stay as long as I did but there is a lot to see.

Inexpensive fun way to spend an hour and learn about automobile production. Cars from all time periods, but with a heavy focus on early 1900s. Staff was very personable. Free for military.

Absolutely love it. But couldn't cover the entire museum. But whatever I was able to see were so good. Superb collection of cars. Anyone who likes cars shouldn't miss this place.

This is one of the finest collections of rare automobiles in the world. This is not just a collection of muscle cars. Entry is inexpensive and comes with free 'tours' if you would like a little more insight than the plaques provide. Well worth a visit.

Wildly cool place. I've been to car museums across the US, including the LeMay in Tacoma and many different museums around Detroit. The national automobile museum in Reno is by far the best. This is a 'must see' when you're in the area.

WOW! This place is amazing. The curators have done a fantastic job of organizing this venue with the very best of automobile history. There are all kinds of vehicles, pictures, written narratives, and historical archives -- all of which come together to tell the rich story of cars and the people and industries that have used them overtime. I was very surprised by what I found here and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place on your visit thru Reno. You will not be disappointed.

Very cool if you're a car person! I went here for a employee party, they had open bar, nice staff, and yummy food served to party guests. The place is set up really nicely, I love how they created settings as if you were walking down city streets or neighborhoods looking at the cars.

Great museum and the staff is great. You could spend all day here and not see everything. It is a big bonus to see some of the actual items picked by the American Pickers.

Fascinating collection of very old timey cars (1880s) all the way up to cars from maybe the late 60s. There were also some unique racing cars and one-offs that were interesting to look at and read about. I would highly recommend picking up the free audio tour at the front desk, a lot of visitors were not doing this and I think they were missing out as a result. It's really interesting to see the progression of the common car across a long time, and the different ideas that different car makers had. I am a car enthusiast so I took my time but I would allocate no less than 2 to 3 hours to really absorb everything and visit all four galleries in the museum. My only critique is that I wish they had extended the progression of vehicles through the current-day, all the way through to some of the high-end exotics on the roads today to see the full timeline of the automobile.

Live Automobiles you'll love this place. We aren't into gambling so this was a great alternative way to spend the day. Plan at least four hours here unless you just run through. The space activities were fun and interactive.

If you love cars and stepping back in time then this place is your dream-come-true! The cars are amazing, the staff is friendly, and the museum is very clean. There's something for all ages here.

Love taking the kids here, NASA displays and one Old vehicle is pictures/climb in friendly. 3 sections of vehicles, guided tours or walk it on your own, movie theater on the cars. Lots of neat things to look at. Only one vehicle can be touched for pictures.

If you like cars throughout history this is the place to go. I found cars I had heard the new innit only seen in books. And the cars go right up to the moon buggy of space. Children and adults alike can find the inter- active stations pleasurable and decorating. If you are in Reno, NV try to make it a stop.

Great family fun. If you like the automotive industry and want to be taken back in time, this is the perfect place. It is very educational and interesting how the automakers of the past used technology that the automakers of today are trying to incorporate now. Great place!
