Children come out like fireflies at sunset to enjoy the playground. The ice cream truck and the people walking the path for exercise all add to the festive atmosphere. And there are ducks! So many ducks...
Virginia lake is a great place to go to with your family friends have a barbecue or picnic. I definitely recommend going there for being in a big city it is quiet and peaceful. Summer months are great to go to but it even looks good during the winter when it's froze over. Seeing all the animals ducks geese highly recommend going there.
This is one of my favorite parks due to special family memories. You can walk around Virginia Lake which a lot of locals do for exercise. Try to feed the ducks seeds or popcorn because they can't digest bread well. There's also a playground with swings if you have kids.
Great place for dog walks. Watching the ducks and geese swimming is pleasantly nice, too. Fresh air is healthy. Sometimes there is even an Ice Cream truck, but not today.
Beware bird poop! Not exactly a downside, just fair warning. There are SO MANY birds here, it's very cool to just hang around and watch the variety of wild friends. I saw a night heron, many types of ducks, Canadian geese and many baby goslings. Swallows, gulls, pigeons, some kind of cormorant thing and some others I could not identify, as well as a ton of songbirds. I was not expecting this level of bird, so if Hitchcock movies make you nervous be forwarned!! I had a great time early in the morning, didn't figure out the bathroom situation but they were being opened up by some employees of the park, so I let them do their thing. While I did see some apparently transient folks, they didn't do anything or approach me. Aside from some minor litter the place seemed clean and there is a big fountain and a floating pier thing. I don't think this would be a great place to fish, not sure if it's legal. Surrounding apartments and homes all seems pretty nice too, good neighborhood.
Absolutely love this place. There's always a hoard of geese here that I regularly feed (bird seed). It makes me happy seeing so many birds here that are comfortable around people! Bring your kids here and show them how beautiful nature can be.
This is always a wonderful place... Whether it's snowing and the lake is Frozen, or if it's sunny out and all the birds are flying around... You can even see turtles sunning themselves on some of the rocks... it's really neat when they have the water fountains going... People are out walking their kids and their dogs... It's just really a nice place!
The lake is clean and peaceful, despite the amount of people and birds there. The paved trail around the lake is great for walking, jogging, and running. There are plenty of benches around the lake to sit and enjoy the pretty scenery.
1 mile (mostly) flat walk around. Wheelchair accessible. Dogs allowed but on leash only. There is a dog park near the south end of the lake. Many birds including migratory birds, seasonally. Fountains and art in the lake, kids play areas around the lake, exercise/stretching areas around the lake. Can be crowded with runners and walkers on warm days/weekends.
Beautiful urban neighborhood lake. We have even seen turtles here! It can be busy with many demographics here. Overall, we love to take a daily sunrise or sunset walk because it really does have nice views. The lake is one mile around so exercising is easy to measure. Pretty condos and houses line the area too!
