This arch depicts the siege of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D. Looking up, you’ll see images of Roman soldiers plundering the religious treasures of the Jews after destroying the Temple. The arch depicts this as a great victory, while Believers would say otherwise. This arch fulfills prophecy, including Mark 13:2. Wow! Imposing structure at one end of the Roman Forum, on the Via Sacra. It can easily be seen from outside the Forum, from the area near the Capitoline Hill. It was erected towards the end of the first century by emperor Domitian after the death of his brother Titus, to honour him and his successes in various battles. It is a well constructed arch with some really lovely details. It is worth visiting and having a close look at it, especially for those who love history, art and architecture. It was fascinating reading the informational sign about the arch. Viewing the siege of Judea from Roman eyes was different for me just because I had learned about this part of history via supplemental Bible study in regards to Jewish Christians who fled ahead of the destruction. It's definitely interesting from a general historical view.

Nicely preserved reliefs, you can see description of roman conquering the Jerusalem, and carrying the treasure from temple. The loot from this campain was used to finance the construction of Collosseum.

A beautiful arch. The original inscription of the SPQR is found here. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the colosseum area. Do not miss the Roman forums as well. Take a guided tour to better understand it's history.

Grand and impressive! It just stands there, out of time, literally as much as it is ancient. It's the gateway to the Forum just a few hundred yards away where other arches stand.
