The Forum of Augustus (Latin: Forum Augustum; Italian: Foro di Augusto) is one of the Imperial fora of Rome, Italy, built by Augustus (r. 27 BC – AD 14). It includes the Temple of Mars Ultor. The incomplete forum and its temple were inaugurated in 2 BC, 40 years after they were first vowed.
The triumvir Octavian vowed to build a temple honoring Mars, the Roman God of War, during the battle of Philippi in 42 BC. After winning the battle, with the help of Mark Antony and Lepidus, Octavian had avenged the assassination of his adoptive father Julius Caesar. He became the Princeps of Rome in 27 BC under the name Augustus, and planned for the temple to be built in a new forum named after himself. Augustus used social propaganda by continuing Julius Caesar's will to create a Temple to Mars Ultor "greater than any in existence," by placing it within the Temple, linking himself to his divine adopted father, obtaining a strong link to the Roman population through their love for the deceased dictator.

Honestly, I was not particularly amazed from this monument. Even though I can recognise its immense architectural and historical value, I just didn't get that fascination.

Located on the opposite side of the Foro Romano, this Foro is not so large, but very impressive too. You don't have to pay to visit it from the balcony on the avenue. At night the place is iluminated and very beautiful to see. Its columns and central building are quite well preserved (remember it's age and what it endured since its construction) and impressive.

I stayed down the road from this ruin. The lights at night illuminate the whole place, and I think there is a laser show at times. Most of it looked like they were doing some preservation to it on the back side of it near the Forum Hotel. One side has some bleachers so you can see and look at it. It is a large section of a city block, and to walk all the way around it will take about 15 mins. It was built to honor Mars and I believe the Romans met here before battle.

One of the most important point of artistic and historical interest in the world. This forum was builted by the emperor Ottaviano Augusto, the first and the most important emperor of Rome. Nowadays you can see olny the ruins because of several attacks in the history, but here if you search on YouTube some Rome rebuilding videos you can understand how this place was important. I suggest to visit this one by nighy, with the lights on it becomes very suggestive and exciting.

The evening light show here is great. Entertaining & learned lots not just about the forum but the empire.
