This is really an exceptional museum located not too far from the train station in Rome. It is spread out over several floors which are all very large and store an incredible amount of art. It exhibits from the pre- and early history of Rome. The ground and first floor all have ancient sculptures well worth seeing such as Boxer at Rest, Aphrodite of Menophantos, and many more. The basement houses Italy's largest numismatic collection with some of the rarest coins in the world and many of which date to the beginning of Rome.

We made the most of a rainy day by visiting the museum which our guide who showed us the coliseum, palitine and forum recommended us to see, a great way to see how the palaces were decorated and the wealth of the Roman empire.

A very nice archaelogical museum with many Hellenistic and Roman sculptures (some of them are masterpieces) mosaics and murals. The museum is fairly big and worth the visit. Ticket is 10€ or 15€ if you take the combined ticket (altebs, karakala, massimo, balbi) which I think is a nice price. Palazzo massimo is the best of them.

Is a very good museum which help you understand the history of Roman Empire and is one of the best museum I’ve visited in Italy. The English introduction of collections are really nice. Also there has many kinds of collects, ex sculptures,items from ruins and paintings from villa. You can spend half day in this museum and it’s worthy !!

Amazing museum in the heart of the city with a large collection of well preserved Roman artefacts. We had a few hours this Sunday before catching our flight back home, and were able to visit this place since it was so close by to the Roma Termini central station. It also happened to be the first Sunday of the month so entry was free. We spent a few hours here starting at 9am. There were very few people so the experience was much better when compared to something like the Vatican museums. Of particular note here are the bronze statues of the boxer and the prince, and the marble statue of the discus thrower. There is also a visualization of how a Roman Villa might have looked with all the mosaics reconstructed, and placed in the appropriate spots. The museum also has detailed English descriptions of all the exhibits (something I found oddly lacking at most other museums in Italy) so it is very easy to understand and explore on your own.

Exceptional frescoes and mosaics. Sculpture was great too. Descriptions in Italian and English. Audio guide was good, but only for about 50 items, not everything in the collection. I would visit again.

First floor has two version of Diskobolos statue. Also you will find here a rare example of roman bronze statue - The boxer. On the subterranean level, behind the reinforced doors is a large collection of roman coins.

Such a shame for such a beautiful museum to have a ticket-selling staff (staff number 50) that's is rude and discriminatory against other nationalities. As a student who’s studying art history in a university in Rome, the ticket should be for free - I have never encountered such problem in other museums. Despite me showing my student card and a proof that I'm studying art history in the EU, the ticket-seller still denies me entry, yelling at me "you are American - it is not free for you!"

Gorgeous palace with a huge collection of mainly sculptures and other precious artifcts including jewellery. The hallways are grand and in entirety this palace has a huge footprint.

Wonderful quiet museum in the heart of Rome. Full of great statues and amazing history. Good place to rest from the busy town. Combined entrance ticket to national museum (4 sites ) includes one audioguide, really worth the price.

I feel very comfortable saying this is my favorite museum in Rome. The Bronze Boxer is always a piece that I want to come back to and visit whenever I am in Rome. The rest of the museum also hosts archaeological hit after archaeological hit, the battle sarcophagus, Tivoli General, the Livia Room, and the frescos from the metro station construction wowed me even after multiple visits. As an additional bonus, this museum is easily accessible via public transit, not crowded whatsoever, and reasonably priced (get the 5 museum ticket for a few euros more and it becomes seriously worth it).
