The Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin (Italian: Basilica di Santa Maria in Cosmedin or de Schola Graeca) is a minor basilica church in Rome, Italy. It is located in the rione of Ripa.
According to Byzantine historian Andrew Ekonomou, the church was founded in the 6th century during the Byzantine rule of the city and was placed in the centre of the Greek community in Rome. The Greek part of the city was referred to as the 'Schola Graeca'. The church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who was greatly venerated as Theotokos (Mother of God) in contemporary Constantinople. The name 'Cosmedin' came from the Latinization of the Greek word κοσμίδιον (kosmidion) that derives from the Greek word κόσμος, meaning "ornament, decoration".

All the tourist outside definitely missed this beautiful church inside. It feels surreal. Said to be one of the earliest Christian church. There's a man asking for money to enter the basement, which many said there's not much in there and not worth the pay.

After you've waiting in line for the Mouth Of Trust don't forget to see this church. It's rather small but very old and has some pretty decorations. It contains a very famous relic: the skeletal remains of St Valentine. For a small donation you can also tour the scavi. The entrance is on the left side of the main alter.

Do not wait for the "mouth of truth". Go straight to the church and ask for permission to go down the stairs to se remainings from 200 BC. Lit true wax candles for your loved ones. Enjoy concerts here.
