The church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti, often called merely the Trinità dei Monti (French: La Trinité-des-Monts), is a Roman Catholic late Renaissance titular church in Rome, central Italy. It is best known for its position above the Spanish Steps which lead down to the famous Piazza di Spagna. The church and its surrounding area (including the Villa Medici) are a French State property.
In 1494, Saint Francis of Paola, a hermit from Calabria, bought a vineyard from the papal scholar and former patriarch of Aquileia, Ermolao Barbaro, and then obtained the authorization from Pope Alexander VI to establish a monastery for the Minimite Friars. In 1502, Louis XII of France began construction of the church of the Trinità dei Monti next to this monastery, to celebrate his successful invasion of Naples. Building work began in a French style with pointed late Gothic arches, but construction lagged.

While relatively modern (16th century) it has some wonderful art work. Even though the front half of the church is closed except to worshippers during Mass there was much to see. In one accessible chapel is Daniele da Volterra's "The Assumption" a stunning work in the Mannerist style from 1550. Another chapel has his "Deposition" (1548). Da Volterra was a pupil of Michelangelo. A further chapel's altarpiece is "The Baptism of Christ" by Naldini (1580). Note that as of January 2018 the church is not open until midday on a Friday.

This is one of the greatest historical and artistic place in the world. These are the great stairs in world, from piazza di Spagna you can go upstairs and when you arrive in a terrace in front of the church of trinità dei monti you will see Roma center, on Christmas time is very remarkable. If you want it is possible to arrive to Pincio park, a place where you will have a sightseeing of all Rome. This stairs was building in XVIII century by Francesco de Sanctis.

A great site connected to the Spanish Steps, mostly crowded.

Stunning view from just outside the church, and worth a walk along the top road that runs by it. The church inside is in the French style and not as impressive as the setting.
