Great family day out Short ride but we'll restored carriages and, never seen as much effort to boost interest in steam trains. Best museum I have ever seem, lots of videos telling the story of the railway. Then a superb woodland walk with funny sculptures everywhere Really enjoyed it!!
Great short day out with small children, at a very reasonable price. Take a short or long trip and be prepared with children to plan your toilet stops. At busy periods you will likely be sharing a carriage, but even standing on the platform with the trains going past can be awe inspiring and I would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the IOW and looking for a morning or afternoon day out!
A great day out with kids. We were there much longer than we expected as they had their brilliant railway folk event on. Well done to all the characters that played their parts and made it fun, friendly and engaging. The pirate gold still has pride of place and is being played with. Recommended.
If on the Isle of Wight a must visit. This is a great place to visit as a tourist - if you are a steam engine enthusiast or otherwise. Lots of loco's (10?) And carriages to see, plus, you can ride for an hour plus in vintage carriages behind a wonderful 1940's fully restored steam engine. The site is staffed by some wonderful volunteers who go out of their way to make you welcome and with their period outfits really make this steam rail tribute a must visit site. Admission in July 2018 is £13 per adult and as well as all the things to see, you can get refreshments and a meal on the site. Children of all ages will enjoy the visit (even those aged 60 +)
One of my favourite event on Isle of Wight. This is the really steam train. You can still have a seat on it and enjoy the country view alongside. Although it is not a long journey, you could feel the time flying as you are the passenger many years ago traveling along the country side to visit your friends or families. There is also a museum beside the train station which allows you to learn some history of this island. The only thing you need to know that there is no notice of starting the train. So you must be very careful to stick to the timetable.
Good day out. Well worth a visit. My toddler, who is mad on steam trains like his great granddad, could've spent all day here. Unlike other railways we've been too where you see one steam locomotive, in the two hours we were there we saw five! The staff answered all his questions. Friendly and helpful. Good restaurant and play area. Very pretty and clean grounds. Excellent shop for brio fans and model railway enthusiasts. Good museum. Easy wheelchair and buggy access.
Great family experience of a running steam train line. Attached is a train museum and a falconry. Unfortunately it was far too hot to wonder around for too long. With so much surrounding land there are often events being held.
Fantastic family day out, with lots to keep kids of all ages entertained. Recently seen on TV we went and saw the newly refurbished coach and spoke to the workshop staff behind the scenes. Rides on the trains, the Train Story museum, static displays and with the falconry talks on the showground. It's an all rounder. Thoroughly recommended.
Such a great day out! My little boy’s first train ride and they gave him a special ticket. Great staff and relaxing environment. I enjoyed all the extra activities too, museum, falconry display, play areas and woodland walk. Great day!
Beautifully maintained steam railway. Great to have a ride on the train and meet the friendly staff. Lovely little cafe and play area, and the woodland walk is full of funny little touches! Got to see the carriage that was restored to its former glory too - absolutely stunning. We had a wonderful time!
A Nice Relaxing few hours,a ride. On an Old Steam Train, then watched a Bird of Prey show, But if You have time there are other things that You could do, Well worth a visit,
A very nice place to go with kids. We really enjoyed going in the steam trains. We went during easter weekend so there was a nice quizz contest for kids. It was fun collecting answers through all the places. We really loved the Train Discovery Centre.
I have been coming here since I was a child, now I'm 41 I enjoy taking my children there with my wife. It's a fun day out and it never gets boring 100% fun 😀
Brilliant day out for the whole family. We went for the ale festival and took a ride on the steam train, enjoying a couple of stops along the way. Even saw a bird of prey show to complete the day. Would recommend to anyone visiting the isle
