La chiesa dei Francescani, in tedesco Franziskanerkirche è una chiesa cattolica, che sorge nel centro storico di Salisburgo, in Austria. Rappresenta una delle chiese più antiche della città, ed è parte di un convento francescano. Si compone di due parti: l'originale basilica romanica a tre pesanti navate con volte a vela, e l'ardito coro tardogotico con delicate volte stellari, fiancheggiato dallo svettante campanile.
Una prima chiesa, antecedente al duomo, dedicata Zu Unserer Lieben Frau, a "Nostra Signora", venne costruita in questo luogo, già di culto paleocristiano, nell'VIII secolo. Sotto l'abate-vescovo Virgilio (745-784) l'edificio venne restaurato per la prima volta, e venne utilizzato come chiesa battesimale e sinodale. Fino a 1139 appartenne ai monaci benedettini dell'abbazia di San Pietro, fino al 1583 era monastero femminile di San Pietro e dal 1189 al 1628 è stata anche la parrocchiale della città.
My favorite church in Salzburg. If you're in town for Christmas, the Christmas Eve Mass was beautiful and much less crowded than in the Dom. I like this church because it's one of Salzburg's oldest and has much less of the overly-gilded baroque style than most. I also at some point saw some concerts here, and the music sounded very unique in the setting.

Now THIS church is really special. I've gotta admit I am not a huge fan of Baroque (it's just too much for me), but the way this one is decorated and those funny little details you can find... yeah, it sort of convinced me Baroque wasn't that bad afterall.
