The Whaley House is an 1857 Greek Revival style residence, a California Historical Landmark, and museum located in Old Town, San Diego, California. It is currently maintained by Historic Tours of America, Inc (HTA).
The Whaley House was the home of Thomas Whaley and his family. At various times it also housed Whaley's general store, San Diego's second county courthouse, and the first commercial theater in San Diego. The house has "witnessed more history than any other building in the city".

A well preserved piece of San Diego history, with some extra perks. The day tour is a self-guided one, with information given on the different rooms in the house. Docents are available to answer any questions, or to give more information on the history and residents of the house. While supernatural encounters are frequent here, don't expect a spook during a visit. It's a low cost way to spend between a 1/2 hour to a full hour, if you take your time.

This is a very well known and much investigated paranormal hotspot. Even if you don't believe in that sort of thing the house is a well preserved bit if history. There are lots of pictures to look at and the docents have stories they can tell you if you ask. The admission price is for a self guided tour and you are provided with literature to guide you and point out key features. If you like history and offbeat interest spots it's worth a visit.

Completely enjoyed visiting the haunted Whaley House Museum. While it was self guided tour, the docents gave colorful history of the family and house and more. Ask questions! They are more than happy to oblige in ghost tales. It was a fun afternoon walking in the home and taking a step back in history.

This was really cool! The tour guide did a good job showing us around and telling our group about all the cool stuff. I had a mysterious scratch on my arm that stung, but my husband insisted it was just because I ran into something(he was most likely right, but I was still creeped out 😂). Would probably not go back in the house because it gave me the creeps, but it was still really cool!

Lovely house; docents were enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made the house come alive for their tour; experienced a little spook on the way home!! Took the last tour for the evening and didn't really experience anything and then, when leaving the house saw one of the lights flip on in the upstairs window; nobody was in the house! Very beautiful house :) 10/10 would def go again :)

Definitely worth the visit if you're into haunted locations. For $13 you can take a self guided tour of the house for as long as you want. Spent about 1.5 hours here. All the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Some of them have had paranormal encounters and others have not. One guide said he gets a lot of activity in the morning when they first open so if paranormal is your thing that's when I would visit. Went around 1030 AM and felt someone squeeze my two smallest fingers on my left hand. When talking to the staff, they said it was Mrs. Whaley or the little girl. Often people see the family dog under the table in the dining room. There are a lot of original artifacts and furniture from the era. There are plenty of rooms you can walk through that are not blocked off by glass. Highly worth your visit if you are into history as well. The Whaley House has a lot of history besides paranormal activity!

I was sold 4 tickets about 30 minutes prior to closing. Staff ensured us that we weren't too late. That we wouldn't be rushed out. It was totally opposite. One of the staff began shutting doors and was overheard by my family saying, "As soon as this family gets out." Just wish we hadn't been told the opposite. We wouldn't have even bothered. Very interesting house, just wish we hadn't felt a need to leave out of there, in less than the 30 minutes that we were there. Definitely felt like it was money wasted.

We went here during a vacation. It is a really neat place and supposedly one of the most haunted places in the U.S. My boyfriend is really interested in this type of thing and had a great time. I have no real interest in paranormal activity but the historical significants is cool as well. We had a great time and enjoyed this visit.

Very cool museum with a cheap ticket price. It is a self guided tour so you don't feel rushed to get through the rooms. They let you take pictures, just no video or audio and have people around that you can ask questions about the museum. I especially liked that they were honest about what was original and what was a replication. Did a great job showing what the house would have looked like during that time period!

Fun little haunted house in Old Town. Would suggest that you take the guided tour instead of the self tour. The guides make it much more interesting and entertaining. A little spooky and creepy, but fun!
