Excellent - there's not many places where you can visit and see so many Asian artifacts and history in one place. Admission here is fairly inexpensive but please, support them and become a member. Place was clean, spacious, A/C and staff here (probably all volunteers) are very nice and helpful. Most of the exhibits had descriptions and you can even check out a headset that tells the history and background. Parking can be a bit of challenge due to the location, but if you come on a Sunday you'll find ample street parking within a few blocks of the place. Or, you can park in the parking lot across the street for about $6 an hour.

I didn't know what to expect going in, but I quickly found this to be one of the best museums I have ever been to. The museum was incredibly interesting, with unbelievable pieces. Each exhibit focusing on a different specific culture was informative, easy to follow, and expertly laid out. I learned so much. And, it's not a daunting or stuffy museum whatsoever. Can spend 3 hours or a whole day.

This is one of the most underappreciated museums in San Francisco. There is so much to see here it's hard to do it all in one day so maybe choose the section and then try to study it. They always have several different events and activities at any time of the year to do besides see the Museum's collection. One fun thing to do is to go to the ringing of the Bell on the New Year's which is really interesting. There's a ton of really interesting Asian artwork of course as well to see.

Very nice. They have a cafe and you don't need to pay admission I order to eat there. I had the Chinese chicken salad. It may sound typical but it was so good! The museum itself is informative and pleasurable to visit.

An awesome museum to visit! Great student price for tickets considering you could easily spend hours here. Art is beautifully displayed and full of history.

Great museum close to City Hall, and other Civic institutions. Has a varied collection of sculptures, religious artifacts, statues, ceramics, Scrolls, and other artfully crafted artifacts. Not many paintings in this Museum, but that's not what the museum is about. Art forms from various Asian cultures are represented. Restrooms are clean and plentiful, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They offer guided docent tours at several hours during the day, both of the general collection, and ones specializing in a particular aspect of the collection or special exhibits. It should also be mentioned that their in-house restaurants / Cafe offers excellent Asian-inspired food fare at reasonable prices for San Francisco. They also have a selection of tea, sodas, wine, beer, and sake.

I've been a member for several years and love visiting. I highly recommend their exhibits and the gift shop has same amazing items at very reasonable prices. Whenever I have company visiting, I always bring them here. And their monthly movie night is a real treat.

Quiet, spacious and an excellent collection of very high quality pieces. Easy to navigate around and a few unusual gems. Was nice to see so much fabric and not too much pottery . The size and ornateness of the jade collection is notably excellent.

Nice exhibit on the Divine Bodies! Very informative and had a good coverage of many countries takes on Buddhism. The rest of the exhibits were quite nice too! I wish there was more they had put in the Korea section but the China section was amazing and had some contemporary pieces as well as mainly ancient works. My only complaint is that the gift shop is a little weak given the amount of things in the museum itself. I wish they had more unique items. A lot of the stuff I could have found elsewhere for cheaper.

When I knew I was visiting SF I immediately checked for museums and art galleries and the Asian Art museum was at the top of my list. The place is big so expect to stay there a couple of hours. Lots of different artistic mediums from paintings to sculptures to fabric/dresses, pottery and much more. I went for the Divine BOdies special exhibit and LOVED it. Definitely recommend.

Very impressive exhibits. My friend wished there was more Japanese stuff. Takes a lot of time to read all the information, but you don't have to wonder what anything is.

This museum is absolutely stuffed with Asian artistic artifacts. They have a large selection of unique and beautiful items as well as information. I was personally hoping to see more modern Asian art but alas their focus was more on historical pieces. It was also a fairly dark museum and some more natural lighting would have really livened the place up.

The new exhibition (the guided tour of hell) is very interesting! I really like the availability of the little booklet to introduce each paintings with much detailed information. Everyone can enjoy at their own pace and no need to squeeze at the front to read the little label next to the paintings. The cafe inside the Asian art museum serves awesome food as usual!

I am a member at The Asian Art Museum for a couple a reasons. One, I have a lifelong fascination with eastern philosophy and arts and The Asian Art Museum's presentations are well curated, intelligent, beautiful, and with a nice balance of ancient and contemporary. My second reason is the cafe. Having a peaceful place in the middle of the city to sit and have tea, maybe get some work done, or enjoy a healthy meal is reallily wonderful. The cafe has been renovated recently and us called Sunday now. I had lunch there recently and it was great.

This place has good general displays, and the special exhibitions are worth going to. I can spend the day there. You learn a lot about Buddhism, Japanese history, and India. Attention is given to ancient and classical arts, much less modern stuff. A good museum experience.
