Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve is a public recreation area in the Santa Cruz Mountains, San Mateo County in northern California. It is managed by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD).
The nature reserve covers 366 acres (1.48Â km2) with 6 miles (9.7Â km) of trails with elevation changes of around 500 feet (150Â m). Trails provide views of San Francisco Bay and undeveloped hillsides. The reserve hosts the source of Cordilleras Creek.
Nice but need a trail map before setting out. Short trails and very narrow paths. Hilly terrain and some nice stop points on most. 5 trails total and two longer ENDURANCE HILL CLIMB PATHS...Bring a nice phone or camera.Great nature shots all over...

Accessible open space preserve! Not only is it right off 280 & Edgewood but there is an accessible trail. The parking lot is fairly small but does have a pit toilet. The best part is the off leash dog area. That hike to that area is short (.4 mi.) but uphill the entire way. Good place to kill an hour or two with your canine.

We had a great hike during our road trip. We stopped to find an old geocache and ended up finding a few others too. The history of the park is very interesting, and we were thrilled to meet so many friendly dogs on the trails. We took a photo of the view from the top.

It's a beautiful preserve with gorgeous hiking trails, and for humans, it's great. I am giving it a lower rating because of its failings as an off leash dog park. The off leash area is large, but VERY shabby. It is totally unmaintained and is full of tall foxtail weeds, burrs, ticks, poison oak, etc. Also, it has no amenities. Not even a water fountain. The off leash area is a half mile hike up the hill from the parking area, and dog owners have to pack in all their water. Oh, and there's no bathroom in the off leash area. Only an out house in the parking lot. San Mateo County has almost NO off leash dog parks, which is another huge complaint of mine. It really stinks that this is one of our only options for off leash access.

Nice hiking. The Off Leash area is a nice walk to. The part that is not so good from a dog's perspective is that on the longer loops the "4-leggers" are supposed to be leashed up. BRING your own bags for dog 💩.

Interesting history and lots of varied trails and scenery. Great views all around at the top. We do this hike all the time with our young kids and the dog, and they all love it! Highly recommended for a nearby family hike.

Pulgas Ridge Open Space is an easy and dog-friendly park in San Carlos. You can choose shorter and easier routes or pick slightly harder and longer ones per your interest and time. Expect to see many dogs including an area where they can be unleashed. Certain trails get close to 280.

Nice preserve that gets five stars mostly for being one of the few that allows dogs. Can get crowded. Some people don't follow the rules. There is an off leash area, but it isn't fenced.

Great for a short (or medium) hike with dogs. There is a large off-leash area where I've only encountered well behaved dogs and owners. I've done a ~4 mile loop a few time that is about half exposed and half protected. The hills are easy. There is a bathroom in the parking lot and signs at trail junctions. It is a suburban area so you can usually see homes or hear I-280. It is not quite as nice as Edgewood park nearby unless you have or like dogs, then it's a clear win.

Dogs and humans alike, all get a great dose of outdoors. Be sure to hit the trails above the off-loaded section, down the backside because that is when the trails get worthy of being called trails!

Great place for hiking, specially with dogs. There is a large off-leash area. But make sure your dogs are on leash, where there is a posted sign. We ended up getting a ticket, just because we removed leash to take pictures, 10 meters from the off-leash area. We didn't realize park security is so strict, instead of letting us go with a warning, issued us a ticket, even though no body was around. Other than this unpleasant experience, great place to walk your dogs and also hike.

I love taking my dog on a hike here. There is a few great paths you can take with lovely views and interesting wildlife. The wild flowers and foliage are also worth the walk. I personally appreciate how people here obey the leash and non-leash area rules. A hidden gem.
