Nothing deluxe about this tour. I sat in the first row of the upper deck. Bus looked like it was about to fall apart. Duct tape along the front of the upper deck, window was attached to metal pole with again duct tape and a piece of wood. Unprofessional tour guide; just didn't seem to want to be there. Bad microphone equipment; it kept cutting out. Tour guide complained about the management company providing them with crappy equipment. Tour guide walked off the bus with several stops still left; bus driver took over at the point. Both tour guide and bus driver asked for tips several times. Bus driver said 'Tips aren't mandatory but they are expected.' Really got the impression that the management company didn't invest in the employees, equipment or providing a quality experience.
If you ever get the bus driver named, Dave/David, he is the funniest bus driver I had the pleasure of being driven by. The tours he gives is hilarious, he tries his best to interact with the guests, and makes sure that everyone is having a good time on the tour. His driving skills are impeccable because there were numerous times that even I doubted that we were going to crash into something, but nope, never once did he ever crashed into anything or anyone. He loves cracking jokes and offering advice to those that never have visited San Francisco. We went over the Golden Gate Bride, which is really windy and pretty cold(!), so be aware that if you sit on the roof, prepared to have some windblown hair and frozen cheeks! There was a bathroom break halfway in the tour when we were on the other side of the Golden Gate Bride, which was a relief. I really did get the whole, this is San Francisco, feeling when we visited the pier, Japanese garden, Golden Gate Bride, hippie central, and more! Again, I highly recommend anyone that goes on this tour a try. I mean, for $45 for about 3 hours, you get a tour of San Francisco, so in my opinion, it's not bad deal. Sit on the 2nd floor at the back of the bus to get a full panoramic view of San Francisco, enjoy that California sun, and laugh along with Dave if you manage to get him as your tour guide. Thanks again, Dave, for the hilarious, professional bus tour!
Don't waste your time! The brochure states that the first bus leaves Union Square at 9:00 am, but the first bus never left until after 10:00 am. The buses are supposed to arrive at each stop every 30 minutes, but we waited for 1 hour+ at the location that we were told to come back to, and decided to just walk around the city on our own instead. Not worth your money!
Literally the worst part of my first experience in San Francisco. They need to put the guys who sell you the tours on the actual bus because they were the nicest ones. We got yelled at for descending the stairs before the drop off but only because on a different bus we were told be ready downstairs ahead of time even when the bus was moving. Get on the same page if you’re from the same company. They didn’t bother to give much time to decide to get off and the bus definitely didn’t come around every “30 minutes”. It was well over an hour at times. I saw the Big Bus Tours come around 5 times more frequently than Deluxe Tours in the designated bus stops.
We had a blast we rode it 3 times (over 2 days) in all. 3 different tour guides Arturro and Edgar were by far the best of the bunch. It's really laid back and not best suited for those who are regimented (as it doesn't actually run every 30 minutes). Overall if you're looking for a laid back easy going way to catch the highlights, I'd recommend it for sure!
This was an awesome experience to take a tour of the city which was not the scripted audio library-put you to sleep tour like some of the other bus companies here. Props to David who was our tour guide to show us the city and brought life to the trip. It was fun, informative, and entertaining. He was cool and also very helpful to show us tourists around. David even went out of his way to help us when my wife lost her phone and helped return it to us later that evening. This was one of the best tour buses I have been on in San Francisco!
As first time visitors to SF, we imagined that the.best way to get about the city without our own wheels was to use the hop on, hop off bus. We were very disappointed with the company 'Deluxe', so inappropriately named, as it could not have been any less deluxe if it had tried. And here's the thing. Nobody tried in any way to make the sightseeing tour work well. The 2 drivers we had seemed to have their own agendas and no 2 routes were the same. One driver drove straight past us down at Fisherman's Wharf, and we waited almost an hour for the next bus. Be warned. Nobody involved with this company cares that as visitors you have a limit on how long you factor in waiting for buses. Even if you find someone to ask, you will not be given honest answers as to how long you will be waiting for the next bus. Forget the 30 minutes they tell you. It just doesn't happen. The rickety old buses are uncomfortable and noisy. The pa system doesn't work well. The company's main concern is getting butts on seats. If you are at Union Square nearing 9.30 you will see rival companies doing a very hard sell to pedestrians.I cannot recommend this company in any way. I gave this review one star because we eventually got to cross the Golden Gate Bridge on the bus, and the driver waits for you to take photos the other side.
The stops are not labeled. You do not know where to wait for the bus. Out of my vacation I wasted more than 1 hour waiting to be picked up at Washington Square. No a positive way to hopOn/off. I would had paid more for a better service
I know it was the holidays and I can understand the waiting on buses. That's not the issue. If you want to use the bus for transportation that's fine. But as far as learning anything about the city, better off just using Google. Our guide the first loop was terrible, I knew more about SF then she did and I'm from Illinois. Was reading from a script on her phone and didn't speak English very well. Even sometimes told us about a place a block after we passed because she didn't know where we was. They give you the sales pitch, we have no lines....well there is a reason for that. Only good thing was, if you work it right, you can ride all week for 1 price. So use this bus as transportation only.
ALL TOUR BUS COMPANIES ARE NOT ALIKE! Go with BIG BUS Touring from the same locations. AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS (It may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for or even less!) This tour company is dishonest in its promotions! We purchased a two-day pass. The original tour guide (Igor) was terrible. He spoke more about needing tips in the jar to supplement his minimum wage job than about the Golden Gate Bridge. He also gave misinformation about the frequency of buses, hour of first departure, etc. In pursuing my concerns I was given the run-around. “Come back at 5:00”. I did, only to wait 30 minutes while Marina, the manager, was on the phone. Two other employees advised me to call VISA to simply cancel my payment as they lack the ability on site to reverse charges. Don’t believe them! The bank has no recourse, as there is a clear contract with the bus company that the bank cannot change. By the time this was explained to me by VISA, Marina had gone. On a point of principle I returned the next day, to again be kept waiting by Marina for 30 minutes while she took (another?) personal call (in Russian, but my partner understood her). When he interrupted her to ask that she speak to me she swore at him like a stevedore. As they have seen fit not to return our money, which the bank has made clear to me was their intention all along, and they were just stringing me along, I am taking the time to write this review to inform others.
