This was a lot of fun. I'm into historical structures and stories so I loved it. Could've spend easily six hours here if we had that much time. Great place to capture a lot of neat an beautiful pictures of the fortress, city, and ocean. There are a lot of spots with pictures and descriptions explaining different parts of the fortress so you can easily wonder on your own.

Walk Into 500 Years of History San Juan National Historic Site preserves stories of great ambition and aspirations. Countries fought for control of this tiny yet strategic island for centuries. Generations of soldiers have lived and worked within the forts. Visitors today are as inspired by these stories as they are by the beauty of the architecture and the ingenuity of design and engineering of this World Heritage Site.

Highly recommended if in San Juan! If you do go and you're on a cruise look for a local tour. We had 6 and paid $15 each. He took us to the El Morro fort and showed us the rest of the area over 3 hours! If you go to this place start your tour at the first level then work your way back up to the latest level. Spend time and consider how they built it and how they moved the heavy cannons around. There is an entry fee of $7 which was well worth it. If you use a wheel chair you'll only be able to access the latest two levels unfortunately

If you love history and are of a curious nature you will love this historical site. It's a pretty large area you need plenty of time to explore it all and enjoy the history and the beautiful sites of the ocean from the historical park. I absolutely loved the time I spent here and searched every corner.💜

It is a beautiful historic place to walk around, a UNESCO world heritage site. Very well preserved by the locals. There is a lot in the architecture and history of the fort, which has been built around 1500. It would involve lot of walking, so better to wear comfortable shoes and carry bottle of water. Must Visit when in San Juan.

San Juan's antiquity comes to life. Here you'll find plenty of exhibitions to indulge your curiosity. Each exhibition is well represented. Each exhibition displays an information board with great info. Where a hat, bring water to hydrate. There is plenty to view and experience, so be certain to allot sufficient time to quench your curiosity and sense of adventure.

Absolutely took my breath away when I saw this place in person. It's not everyday you'll see a site like this. This place captures the history San Juan has to offer and offers plenty of posts/signs to help tell the story. This castle also offers breath taking views that overlook both San Juan and the ocean beating against the castle. If you ever visit San Juan, definitely put this place on your list!

Awesome place! The Atlantic breeze fills the park (and the inside of!) with constant currents of refreshing air, also giving a spectacular view of the waves. The castles themselves, (San Felipe & San Cristóbal) are amazing too. They give a fantastic view of the past, everything from the beginning of it's construction to the usage of it as an American fort in WWII! The in land front of San Felipe is also spectacular, it works as a place to do a picnic, and is always full of colorful kites. If you like historic sites, hate sweating, and love walking, this is the place for you!

This is San Juan Fort and it overlooks the vast Atlantic Ocean. Many small islands are visible from here and that combined with the ocean makes a great sight. The sunset here is beautiful. The fort is surrounded by grasslands on 3 sides which makes for a fantastic scenery. You can find people coming here for picnics and flying kite of different shapes and sizes.

This was one of the stops on an East Caribbean cruise. It was one of the (if not "the") best. A historical peninsula with a great view. Castles, churches (one of the most amazing Basilica I've ever seen), amazing coastline. We had a very good guide who was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer all questions. I must admit visit involved a great deal of (not too strenuous) walking but very well worth the effort.

Incredible Experience an absolute must see in Old San Juan. The history sends chills down your body! Great Staff!!!!!! Jose is very Knowledgeable & Super Friendly! The views are breath taking and the thought of battles fought is heart breaking! Great family day bring a lunch and some water bottles and have a picnic anywhere on the incredible soft grass.

What a beautiful place to visit. Most areas seem to be ADA compliant. The views are spectacular. Looking out over the Atlantic gives you an amazing view of the ocean and with the fort situated on the hill you get an amazing view of old San Juan and beyond. It takes a lot of energy to explore the fort and we didn't get to see it all but I would love to go back and see it again. The price of admission is well worth it. Park employees were knowledgeable and courteous. If you have issues walking up steep hills make sure to take your time as there are many inclines within and outside of the fort. If you have children just beware that if they were to climb up some of the walls they could fall quite a distance, it's an old fortress not an amusement park so it's not meant for small children to run free. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my kid's though as it's a great piece of history and hopefully it would tire them out!

It's a place to go and visit if you are interested in the history of the island. You have to go in comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking. If you are going with kids and paying the admission fee ($7 now) make sure they are ready to walk up and down stairs and you bring water even though there is a little shop inside you can buy some if needed. The scenery is beautiful but I think if there were someone for questions or some kind of history telling it would be better.

Wheelchair accessibility, though you may need help getting the chair up the steep walk. Free for active military, and discounts for others. Not much there, but information. And almost every inch of castle is photogenic. The bathrooms were not bad considering the location (in an old castle). You can go up to the roof as well, and the views are amazing up there!

You can enjoy very beautiful sight here! Spanish colonial cultures are mixed here! From the fort you can enjoy both scenic ocean and old city. It was said that the devastated damages by hurricane were serious, but no problem because those places for sightseeing are already good condition and many tourist are enjoying!

This place is beautiful. Great view of Old San Juan. Very picturesque. $7/person (free or discounted for children under 15). For one payment of $7 you can explore the two museums at two sites, 15-20 walking distance to each other. You will have lots opportunities for amazing pictures. There are many tunnels, stairs, landscapes to explore. Very family friendly. Bring a hat and bottle of water on hot summer days, especially if you have children. It requires a lot of walking.

Old San Juan is absolutely gorgeous. As you walk down the streets you can look and see the resemblance of Spain. The streets are well kept and there is so much to do. The views of the ocean are beautiful and the fort is absolutely awe inspiring. You can walk along the walls that once protected the island. There are street vendors everywhere. Also there is the gate to San Juan which is a large wooden door that is 100s of years old.

Went on vacation to San Juan Puerto Rico. While there we went to see El Morro fort. It was an old Spanish fort that is managed by the national park system. It's a great site to visit and you walk it at your own pace. It does have some steep areas and may not be suitable for those with limited abilities. Overall the fort has some great views and interesting history. I have a great time there and the fee to enter is used to help maintain the site. I highly recommend this to anyone planning to visit. We even got to see an iguana on the ground walking around the old fort.

I've been to a lot of historical sites, and this is one of my favorite places to visit in the world. It's hard to exaggerate how beautiful it is ... it can be approached by the city gate (which I recommend trying at least once...it's a half hour walk or so) or from the old town, which is the main entrance. Once you're there there are extraordinary views of the bay and the city, a large green lawn with people flying kites, etc. There are plenty of spots and exhibits to explore. It's also convenient to visit - the site is well maintained by the park service, and it also has bathrooms, water fountains, and a small gift shop inside. Worth the visit while in PR.

It is an amazing place! Full of History you can close your eyes and feel it. And the view is breathe taking. In the summer I go once a week and learn something new every time. There is so much to see and learn that one day is not enough. Has a souvenir shop and a movie room as well. Tour guides on weekends and maps of the Parks including the City.
