This museum is a great place to start understanding precolombian art and people. The curating includes art from all of the main civilization in the continent. The building is easily accessible in the center of the city.

Can only comment on shop as closed on Monday. Shop was good and bought sensible priced art reproductions. Was closed the next day too as Pope visiting

Very interesting museum. Really well laid out and displayed. Lots of fascinating objects. Timelines and explanations help create the context for the displays.

Utterly magical museum dedicated to pre-Columbian artefacts. Worth every penny of the entrance fee. Wheelchairs can be borrowed from reception. Cafe is decent but pricy.

Excelente lugar para conocer sobre las culturas de Chile y América latina, las salas de exposiciones se encuentran divididas por regiones lo que las hace más fáciles de recorrer. La exposición temporal muy bonita y con mucha información,las imágenes de buena calidad. El precio es accesible ya que como estudiantes extranjeros residentes nos cobraron solamente 500 CPL.

Astounding collection of Pre-Columbian art featuring English and Spanish descriptions. Historic regional lower level display featured artifacts of jewelry, textiles, clothing, pottery and numerous other items (including mummy) predating birth of Christ by at least thousand years. Second floor display contained stoned, wood, metal sculptures and special room of ancient weaving. Pleasant cafe in center air conditioned atrium served excellent food with generous portions. Large bookstore with numerous volumes highlighting Chile. Very secure area.

Medium sized museum. Excellent for Chilean precolombine art. Rather limited for other precolombine art, but a surprise anyway how such art from Mexico, Colombia and Peru ended up in Santiago about 100 years ago... I was especially impressed with the basement collection. Also the temporary exhibition of nature and art from the Atacama desert was excellent.

1000 peso for locals, 6000 peso for foreigners. Ok i understabnd that there could be a different price for locals but 6 times more for foreigners? It is not about the amount, it is about discrimination.. We are not walking wallets..

Lovely historic building near Plaza de Armas. Nicely displayed exhibits with English translations. Good use of multimedia in exhibits.

Beautiful and informative exhibits on the original peoples who lived in Chile in the thousands of years before the Incas and the Spanish arrived. I appreciated that everything was available in both Spanish and English, although in some exhibits (Chile before Chile) the lighting was so low and the English was in such a light font it was pretty hard to read. They offer an app for your phone that will guide you through the exhibits in several languages including English; I didn't use it but would recommend it for English speakers, particularly if you have vision challenges. Spent 1-1/2 hours here and didn't even get to the 2nd floor. Also there is a gift shop with very high quality items and books.

A truly breathtaking museum in Santiago. Great building housing fantastic Precolombian pottery, figurines, and some fantastic textiles and fabrics. Not to be missed! (6,000 pesos for foreign visitors and well worth it). Plenty of English captions, as well.

Beautiful museum with tons of artefacts from all over Latin America, but seriously lacking in artefacts and information about indigenous cultures in Chile. If you're in Chile to learn about Peru's Incan civilization and the Mayans and Aztecs from Central America and Mexico, this museum is for you. But if, like me, you were hoping to learn more about the mapuche culture, this museum is sure to disappoint.
