I rarely feel the need to post anything publicly... Just had a once in a life time food experience at Peumayen ancestral food in Bario Bellavista of Santiago, Chile. Although all the drink and wine pairings were extraordinary, the complex flavors emerging from the Carmenere, Repel, 2016 with catuto with horse meat, milcao with hen, and mussels provided a full tour of every flavor and taste... and that was only one of six courses! No one should visit Santiago, Chile without eating here! A singular world and culinary experience!
Hard to add anything to all the excellent reviews already uploaded. Suffice it to say that this was one of the best meals we’ve had anywhere! Simple yet innovative, and I love the concept of valuing indigenous cuisine while adjusting it for the curious non-indigenous palate.
This was a really fun dining experience with lots of new things to try and excellent pacing. The food is experimental, based on traditional ingredients and cuisine but unique and updated, and is presented as a showcase. I don't want to spoil it for anyone thinking of going. It's well worth it. This is not a walk in and sit down restaurant. Upon entering, we were asked if we had a reservation. As it turned out, we had tried to make a reservation but the website kept returning errors, so we decided to go and try for a table in person. We mentioned the time slot we had tried to reserve and were shown to a table for two after a quick consultation between two of the people there. The service was excellent. Everyone seemed as excited to have us there as we were to be there. Each food item was explained and they didn't miss a beat helping us out in English :)
A truly extraordinary dining experience. The food was exceptional with every last detail meticulously thought out and beautifully executed by the kitchen. An array of amazing flavors and a one of a kind menu. You have to be adventurous and willing to try new things at this restaurant, but it will be well worth it. The service is the best we’ve had in Chile, their staff is fantastic and will offer great descriptions and advice. Last, but certainly not least, their drink menu is incredible offering tons of cocktails, piscos, and a wine list that will make any wine lover excited. If you like unique dining experiences, go here. You will not regret it.
At the start, we told the staff that we wanted our food with the least salt and no fried food but they still came out as if our requests were not understood. Didn't enjoy the food as every course had some kind of fried food. The kitchen should have respected the diner's requests. It was not cheap either.
