Centre alternative for Cerro San Cristobal. I was planning to end the Sunday afternoon at Cerro San Sebastián, but already being in the city centre for the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Precolombine Art Museum and running out of time I decided to walk to nearby Cerro Santa Lúcia instead. It takes you about 15 minutes to walk up the hill and climb the final part of stairs. Access is free. On the old fort’s deck you have a 360 degree view of the city and mountains. The Torre Santiago is exactly behind some trees, but you have an alternative viewing point on it plus mountain backdrop from the small park just below the observation deck. Worth the walk and climb if not going to Cerro San Cristobal.

This place is amazing, you can hardly believe your in the city. It's beautiful and it's quiet and definitely the best way to get a decent walk in if your nearby. If your not its worth getting on the metro, bus or car and taking some time to unwind

What a great way to spend 1 or 2 hours! Lots of steep stairs but enough shade and flat parts to make this an enjoyable trip. Make sure to bring sunscreen on a sunny day because the last part up to the view tower is without shade. From there, you can see most of Santiago, Cerro San Cristobal with the funiculaire, the Costanera tower, and, if the smog permits, the surrounding mountains. The Japanese garden was a bit of a disappointment, but there were many trees, ferns, and flowers on the way up, so it will still be a delight for people who enjoy plants. There were bathrooms halfway up (300 pesos) and some stands selling water and snacks. Metro stop: Santa Lucia (red line), exit Miraflores.
