Beco do Batman (English: Batman's Alley) is the nickname for the area around Rua Gonçalo Afonso and Rua Medeiros de Albuquerque in the Vila Madalena neighborhood of São Paulo. Beco do Batman is a popular tourist destination because of the dense concentration of graffiti that line the streets.
The nickname for the area is attributed to a graffito of the DC Comics character Batman which was painted on one of the walls in the 1980s. Local art students began filling the walls with other psychedelic and cubist influenced designs.
I love murals and this place has good ones. To find it is easy since it is signaled on Google maps, south of Madalena Subway station. Some streets around the narrow alley also have murals. There's only one that has a tiny Batman logo, I'm not sure if it's the original. I also saw a Mona Lisa with the Batman sign, but she's harder to find because not a typical mural.

This place has a urban rock-and-roll feel to it. We visited during a Tuesday at around lunchtime (vacation in São Paulo) and we all, including the kids, greatly enjoyed walking and discovering the place. There are lots of street arts and you can spend an hour just studying and discovering. The area has also several galleries where you can upgrade you urban street art collection with pieces from local artists. We did not do that this time, but added to bucket list. We did however find a great veggies restaurant just in the neighborhood, a banana verde, that had really surprisingly good food. Recommended as a family trip to get a feel of big city life Security: Daytime, no problem, even with kids. We parked in the street, walked all over the place, it was all fine. Nighttime... Well this is São Paulo, be careful, I wouldn't, and certainly not with the kids.

Beautiful art work. Many paintings and graffiti done on the walls. It's beautiful.

Interesting art pieces, go during the morning before the crowd so you can enjoy the walk through without a bunch of people standing infront the art work to take photos.

Amazing place to hang out, drink some beers and go out party. Cool grafities and even better vibe.

A very unique experience. Extremely vibrant art work on the murals of this small art enclave in the heart of frenetic São Paulo. A must visit. Not too crowded when I was there on a Saturday afternoon.

It's nice place to visit if you like art. The street is about 100 m to walk and that's all. But you can get fancy photos of you here.

Really nice area. Street art everywhere. Lots of nice bars and places to walk around

Nice place for taking pictures! Creative and unique illustrations fill the walls from one end of the alley to the other. The neighbourhood (Vila Madalena) is filled with great bars and restaurants. Parking the car is a problem though. Parking lots are expensive (R$25-40/hour) and the available places in the street are a bit far from the main location.

I loved this place, even though it was crowded with a lot of people taking pictures (I went on Sunday) I enjoyed my time over there. I had to walk from the subway station some few blocks, but I really enjoyed it all the way. The only detail to take into account is that there are not many places with wifi around, this makes it difficult to order a taxi service like an Uber.

A chill vibe to the this place which I have been meaning to see since I saw it on a tv series on NatGeo. It is filled with graffiti, really good ones. It's a nice 5 min walk and very close to the lively villa madelena lane. Must visit for someone new to SP. I have added some pics of the art work too.

The coolest thing that all graffitis are being covered with new ones, so you can visit it in a year and find the place totally different. Or just go to 360 panoramas on Google maps and explore how it changes)

Must see place. Street art that make you think deeply, like if you have in a museum. In the weekends, even at night, are very pleasant ans full of life.

Awesome art spot with a lot of people around and different artists selling things. A lot of great places to take pictures with the art. Also in the area there are a lot of galleries and arts stores.

Great graffiti art work. Great place to take pictures. Lots of people taking selfies and even professional pictures. People from all over the world come to Batman Alley. In a very hipster neighborhood.

Pretty cool street art joint in the middle of the city, kind of remember me of Wynwood Walls in Miami. It's located on the neighborhood of Vila Madalena which is a pretty cool bohemian neighborhood with lots of bars, restaurants, caffes etc. Brazil has some amazing street artists, some of then even have works on Wynwood, and this is a great place to check then out on their original environment. If you are into street art, just go check it out!

Love the graffiti, and vibe of this place. Way too many people, to the point that is hard to appreciate the street art at times. Great food, and coffee options around.

A lot of amazing artworks in a small alley. (It's just an alley, and there is no entrance fee.) Everyone is talking selfies, but they wait for their turn and generally are very respectful of others. Must visit in São Paulo!
