Fue fundado por los primeros monjes benedictinos que llegaron a la ciudad en 1598. El actual edificio fue construido entre 1910 y 1922.

Magnificent building with colonial style architecture located in easily accessible area through metro line. Good surrounding to have a hang out.

I love to go there from time to time. Extremely charming interiors and a real peaceful emotion. The community of monks praying several times a day gives the opportunity to joint them and to enter their quiet existence of praise. Pope Benedict XVI stayed here during his visit in Brazil in 2007. Recommended to tourists and do not forget the Sao Bento bread!
