Tanah Lot (Balinese: ᬢᬦᬄᬮᭀᬢ᭄) is a rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali. It is home to the ancient Hindu pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot (literally "Tanah Lot temple"), a popular tourist and cultural icon for photography.
Tanah Lot means "Land [in the] Sea" in the Balinese language. Located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) North West of Denpasar, the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

Decent view out over several temples but very touristy with the entrance surrounded with market and souvenir stalls. Once you are inside the complex there is a nice grassy area and walk along the cliff. You can get close to the shore near the main temple but it's hard to get good photos with all the other people doing the same thing. There are no information boards or any obvious visitors centre so you really need a knowledgeable guide to accompany you if you want any of the history otherwise it's a fairly pleasant place to spend a hour or so but don't expect to find authentic Bali culture here.

A very sacred place with an excellent view. If you sincerely come to pray and are wearing the correct clothing, the priests are more accommodating to let you inside than they are at other sacred places. That was in 2015 and still a very high bar to clear. There's a small cave accessible from the main section that has very tame sea snake that the priests allowed blessings to occur. Be sure to bring some water container to get fresh holy water that pours from the well on the island and filters right down to sea level. For the nonspiritual visitors beautiful sunsets can be watched while sipping your favorite beverage. Kecak monkey dance performances are also held in the area.

Nothing special if you can't go to Temple! from viewpoint just a island in water. I used drone - so it was much more fun, but still. Market over here is quite okay, but too much attention to tourists. Quite good place to meet sunset, as sun is going to Touchdown in water. If you are lucky you can see hundreds of bats flying over water.

Beautiful place for the evening. The sunset view is very scenic. The location of the temples is good. Good for families and couples. Won't recommend for bachelors. The crowd is too big to relax here. Not a quite place. For shopping this is best place. With lot of shops and variety of things to buy and eat. If you are planning to visit this place visit in the afternoon after 3pm. Spend sometime in shopping before going to beach as all the shops will be closing after sunset. Bargain well. The more you bargain, lesser the price. While going to Tanah Lot visit coffee estate or small park where you can taste variety of coffee and tea to taste and buy.

Better to go to the place in the morning as there are less people. And you have more photography opportunities. Also it's relatively cooler than the evening. Since the temple can't be entered by anyone else other than Balinese Hindus all the rest can do is go to the steps and meet some priests and drink some water from the natural spring at the base of the temple..... that is if you are up to it. The water is sweet and not salty. Please check the tide before you go there .tanah lot can be enjoyed only if there's the low tide when you go. Quite peaceful if the number of people is less

A very interesting place. Though it is marketed as a temple, there is no God that you will end up seeing. The walk to the feet of the temple through the water is very exciting. There are shacks on the hill overseeing the old temple which gives a very good view of the sea and the temple. The rhythmic sound of the water splashing the stones and beach gives you a serene feel. Lot of shopping huts with sellers offering products at hefty rates leaving a lot to bargain. A must go place when you visit Bali. A good long drive sets the stage for a good experience.

As beautiful Bali is, Tanha Lot temple is even more beautiful and it's one of a kind. It was so beautiful that it felt like a wallpaper with the amazing landscape. The crazy waves hitting the temple , makes it even more picturesque. I can't wait to go back to Bali again and enjoy their great food, culture and understand life on a local level. You are for sure getting in to a peaceful ride, if ever Bali is on your bucket list. I have had the best times in Bali with my family. Everyone loved the temple, the surrounding markets selling traditional Balinese woodcarvings, toys and basically a lot of souvenirs. It's beautiful and totally worth the visit.

This is a very beautiful tourist spot located about an hour away from the airport. The highlight is a temple that appears in the middle of the ocean when the tide is high with big waves. We can walk to the temple when the tide is low. Other than that, the areas around the temple are equally beautiful. The hole cliff nearby is also a great place for people who love to surf. The wind and waves are perfect for advanced surfers. Of course along the road leading to the entrance is a paradise of local souvenir hunters. The price is very attractive and you will find them the cheapest compared to the same products in other places. Just make sure you grab what you need there unless you plan to go back again.

They said you must visit Tanah Lot if you go to Bali because that will make you visit it again some day. Well for me its true because its my second time here. And I plan to go here again next time I'm in Bali! The view was perfect whether sunset time or not. But I really recommended enjoy sunset in one of those cafes on upside hill. Splendid experiment!

It's an amazing place with beautiful scenic view. It's the best place for sunset view in Bali and there is a temple based out on top of a hill accompanied by sea which just compliments and complete the beauty of that place. Sunset usually takes place at 6.07 pm and a huge crowd turns out to see that. So it is advisable to reach there by 5 so that u can grab a perfect corner. Also the place is bit far from other beaches and at times traffic may hinder your plans so better leave early rather than missing the beautiful view.

I have seen this type of temple first time in my life. There are two temples and separated by sea water. Under low tide conditions one can walk from one to another one. Bali Hindu worship here and sacred temple. The day we landed here many Balinese were prayers and offerings which is nice to see. Sunset from this place is one of the things not to be missed. There are lots of shops on the way selling local items and souvenirs. One can get Indian food as well here. This must visit temple in the eve time from 4 to 7 pm.. please keep sufficient travel time as in the evening lots of traffic till the temple.

Good scenery and ambience. Sacred and holy temple, the sunset view from this place is amazing. Stores located along the way to the temple offer various merchandise and food to buy. Their klepon, traditional snack originated from this area is a must-try one. High recommended! Do come and pay a visit when you guys are in Bali.

Tidy and excellent layout of souvenir shops and parking area. Park is maintained well.. A very pleasant surprise compared to my previous visit years ago. Steps to the Rocky beach is quite hard for small children and elder..but the scenery is awesome. Gifts price is reasonable and you can bargain with friendly sellers.

Legends, historic places, icons of tourist attractions in Bali. Some people say, if visiting Bali it is not complete if not visit this place.Location is not too far from the city center, making a lot of tourist come to this place, both local and foreign tourists. It is beautiful to enjoy the scenery in this place in the afternoon. The waves and breezes add to the comfort of this place. By the time the sea water recedes, visitors can be quite close to the location. There are several small stalls selling souvenirs, and some small stalls selling food and drinks. There is a large parking lot for vehicles and is arranged neatly.

Wanted to give 5 star but had to settle on 4 because the temple on top of this hill was closed for visitors. Otherwise its a beautiful place. Close to the ocean. Fresh breeze. Pleasant atmosphere. Few joints to eat and buy souvenirs. Once you enter this place, walk towards your right side and after you pass the hill (with a gap in between) you will find a staircase leading you down to the beach. There will be a rope tied like a fence which make people feel that its a restricted area but after asking the local person, we came to know that we can actually go down to the beach. So dont forget to go there.
