The Giralda (Spanish: La Giralda [la xiˈɾalda]) is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral in Seville, Spain. It was built as the minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville in al-Andalus, Moorish Spain, during the reign of the Almohad dynasty, with a Renaissance-style top added by the Catholics after the expulsion of the Muslims from the area. Dating from the Reconquest of 1248 to the 16th century and built by the Moors. The Giralda was registered in 1987 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with the Alcázar and the General Archive of the Indies. The tower is 104.1 m (342 ft) in height and remains one of the most important symbols of the city, as it has been since the Middle Ages.
Very tall and beautiful Moorish architecture tower with a bell-top. The tower is obviously an eye-catcher bvause of the height and the carved walls. It can be climbed up for a panoramic view of the city and is actually a part of the Seville Cathedral.
Well worth the entrance fee to the cathedral - the visit to the Giralda is included in the cathedral entrance fee. The viewing platform is up 34 floors with ramps instead of steps and a short flight of steps at the top. The corridors are wide too. Great views from the top.
Really loved the views! Was a little busy but we went up after a guided tour. Would be even better at golden hour or sunset. Not too hard a climb at all, and there are spots to rest along the way (or pretend to take photos ;)) if you need it. Wonderful architecture and a great story behind it. Worth a trip.
Worth climbing atop this artful historic tower for the experience of touching the centuries old bells while viewing beautiful Seville.
Part of the seville cathedral turned museum , a long walk up for an ok view
Prepare your legs in this tower there isn’t a lift, but if you are strong enough to arrive at the top you will enjoy a stunning view of Sevilla. Also at the top you can see the different bells of the tower. The queue for came inside into the cathedral is crazy but if you get the ticket online it could be a little bit better. Also try to go during the lunch time, we were in front of the church at 11 and there was 1h of queue that just disappear at 13. ;) eat something before and try to have a look for the hour it will be the best to skip the queue and enjoy a stunning view.
The most captivating place in Seville....to understand about history and Architecture, I recommend a guide....the scale of this place is amazing so as the facts which seem even more intriguing....visit the tower..ITS WORTH IT!!!! on the way to the top, you will find enough windows to understand about the structure(especially the buttresses...the windows will keep you engaged with panoramic views and you will not even realize when you reach the top!!!! SUPER DUPER AWESOMELY RECOMMENDED!!!!
This might be the easiest tower I have been to. No steps until the very end. The view is nice. However, the south side of La Giralda is under renovation. Which means you won't be able to get a view of Real Alcazar. 😥 (May 28, 2018)
Amazing to climb up the tower by ramps rather than steps. There are good stop off places with interesting historical istallations. Don't miss the clock mechanism and spot the dragon!
What can you say? Still the best place to view Seville as it once was - and still is.
La Giralda tiene 32 pisos o ramps para llegar hasta la torre. La historia dice que se subian a caballo pero nosotros nos subimos a pie. Fue una experiencia divina y la vista desde arriba fue espectacular.
